Got a keg from a friend (they were late returning it and the liquor store said we are keeping the deposit, you can keep the keg) it is an aluminum made by Firestone. At least that is what is stamped on it. Shoud I keep it for a HLT or give it back to him?

If its 300 series S.S. then it is not magnetic. magnet tests are unreliable for testing S.S. vs. aluminum.

In any case I would keep it. Aluminum does not clean up as nice as SS, but the heat transfer is good and if it works... Just might not be as pretty as some.

What do you mean by "Late returning it"? Late as in 30 years? I don't see why they wouldn't take it back, unless it is an outdated keg, then I'd say it's AL.

That's aluminum .. cleaned up. Can't get deposits on these kegs.
