Throughout traveling in central america and mexico, it was not uncommon to be served beverages in a plastic bag with a straw. Well, I recalled that one day in a rush and vacuum sealed some beer in a bag, tossed it in a cooler with a couple cups and away I went. So it got me thinking that beer sealed in a vacuum bag would be easy to mail. The idea would be to put it inside another bag, and seal the second outer bag filled with air acting like air packing. As I started writing this I started thinking a bottle or pet could be sealed in a bag filled with air, protecting it. I havent mailed any beer yet, but would like to. Anybody ever try this? Thoughts..

If you vacuum pack beer, you will end up losing carbonation. Even if you just seal in a plastic bag you will lose carbonation. You need a rigid container to maintain the pressure on the beer, to keep the CO2 from coming out of solution.

Brew on :mug:

What about using the vacuum bag for air packing? A pet inside one, seems plausible.

Wont the bottle just bounce around inside the air bag? Unless you made a giant bubble wrap type of bubble!?

Bottle would be vacuum sealed and then put inside another bag vacuum sealed with air?

Lol, maybe I'm just not getting it. But unless the inner vacuum sealed bag is secured somehow within the other air fill bag. Won't it just bounce around?

^^haha, because of friction I don't think it'll bounce around that much. Maybe some napkins or foam peanuts or something inbetween the two bags. That would be pretty solid no?

I mailed 4 bombers to a buddy in Japan...wrapped each bottle in bubble wrap and then lined the box with bubble wrap...everything was gravy!

vacuum sealed... with air? If it's vacuum sealed by definition there is no air in the bag.

The idea here is to make air packing to protect the bottle.

you just described bubble wrap :p

^^Yes, a big bubble though, or maybe a bunch of little ones and a lot cheaper. I get huge rolls of bag material for cheap. If you have never sealed with one, you can choose to just seal or remove air.

Sounds like way too much work and cost. That vacuum material isn't cheap and it takes time. I have boxes of bubble wrap from shipments that were free and require no work. This idea seems silly sorry.

I appreciate the input, but the idea was alternative thinking.

If it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind here...why make things more complicated when a tried a true thing works? Just my .02

Sorry, it's my understanding that a lot of methods arent that tried-and-true. Maybe I'm Wrong. I've heard plenty of stories of breakage and leakage Etc. I know many now vacuum seal their bags to protect from leakage. Also that bubble wrap you speak of is expensive. With this method it is plausible I think to use the one-size-fits-all bag and have some substantially discounted shipping. I could be very wrong though and know nothing about shipping. Just wanted to offer some alternative ideas. I appreciate what you're saying though.

Ok, vacuum sealed packaging was met with some skepticism. I need to attach thread. Rightfully so, although I think it is still a good idea. This is the pay dirt, I hope, maybe?

Just an idea...When I go to softball and want to bring beer, I have resorted to bringing beer in a seal a meal bag. The guys give me umm a hard time but it works. I just toss the bag of beer in some ice and boom, done. Sometimes, I bag the beer and then put it in another bag with ice. I now do it golfing to. So it got me thinking, this could be a very considerable way to send beer. Unbreakable, sealed, purged with co2, and then put maybe in second bag filled with air protection. I wonder if it would be strong enough or use bubble wrap. Then could easily send a gallon, let alone 24 oz in one of those prepaid envelopes. No? Thoughts welcome.

This idea remains interesting, viable, and worthy of further consideration. Think about it this bag is almost 3 beers. Two or three beers could be sent with such ease. In a cheap padded envelope. I packed this from my buddy today I shot CO2 in after I should have done it before. If it was shot with CO2 and then sealed I think it would hold for a couple weeks

Why don't you test this? Purge a bag with co2, fill it, purge it again, seal it, the try it in 2 weeks and see how it taste
