First, i would like to try my first all grain batch by making a Ithaca Flower Power clone. If anyone has a clone recipe I can follow, then that would be great. I've researched the malts and hops, but being so new I had some other questions? I want to end up with a 5 gallon batch, which I then Keg. How do I figure out how much Strike water do I use for steeping the grains, then the amount of Sparge water after that. Can someone help me with a detailed amount so I can try and brew this beer. A detailed, concise recipe would be nice. Amounts, timing of hops, dry hopping etc. and amount of water and temps to start with. Man, sorry, but because this is my first all grain, i would love some help. Thanks

Never had the flower power. For mash water I generally use 1.25 qts per lbs of grain. Mash temp depends on the recipe.

I have no idea on the hop schedule. Do a search and see if you can fid a clone recipe.

For your first AG I suggest more simple brew. One with straight forward hops and grains. This way you can concnetrate in the process rather then the recipe Once you have the basic AG steps down, then branch out to more complex recipes. Just my advice.

Thanks-- yeah maybe I'll start with a simple brew. 1.25 qts per lbs of grain sounds right.

I use 1.25 qt/lb. There are numerous calculators to tell you strike temp. I'm typically around 167-170 F.

Figure about .13 gallon/lb will be absorbed. You then know what you'll collect in the first running. Lets say it's 2 gallons.

If you want 7 in the boil, you need to sparge with 5. I split that into two sparges of 2.5 g. Your numbers will be different based on boil off rate.

Your recipe will determine hop schedule.

Take a gravity reading before boil ( mix well first), so you know if you will be under or over gravity and adjust.

I start with around 7 gallons (3 gal mash in , 4 gal sparge), I know I am going to loose a gallon to boil off and a gallon to grain absorption. After the boil I will have right around 5 gal. Like others have said it will very a little depending on your set up.
