They go in order just about all the time. There are some cases where they can move around, but it's not common.

To be fair, if i'm not mistaken we got a higher percentage of Dem support than Rep when it came to the vote last time. Granted we had a good bit of Rep support too but if the prior trend continued we should do well.

My question was not intended to be political, but factual. Ever since the Repubs forced through the school voucher bill, the Dems have been protesting by demanding that every single bill be read in its entirety, which was reducing the calendar to one bill per day (many bills are hundreds of pages long).

For the record, I identify as a conservative (libertarian) who votes independant. Most of my votes do tend to go Repub, but the Dems alway get a few of my votes every election cycle. I vote for people/policies, not parties.

The Dems wanted to send a message that they were pissed about the school voucher bill.
I am of the opinion that things will go back to "normal" when spring break is over.
I don't think they want to keep it up for the rest of the session or nothing will get done and they will be to blame. You can only saber rattle so much before you commit political suicide.
I think that is why our bill is on the SoC for the first day back.
Mac knows what he is doing.

Note: I don't know if any of you listened last year when the bottle size bill was voted on. The first time the bill went up for a vote the Dems protested not getting any pack money so they voted it down. It was all for show because the bill came back up the next business session and was passed out of the house with very little debate. It was so fast I almost missed it.

I agree with al of the first half of your post. And yeah, I do remember that silly protest last year.

Hopefully, posturing and nonsense won't kill us yet again.

to correct everyone its not a school voucher bill. it allows parents to move their kids from schools that have been deemed as failing to a better public or private school. if they move them to a private school they'll qualify for up to a 3500.00 tax refund to help pay for that. if they move to another public school the tax money simply follows them to that school. but back on topic now

I agree with Aubie in that it will probably spell the end of the public school system in Alabama as we know it. I'm just convinced that's a bad thing. The school system down here is so awful we're already considering yanking ours out in favor of home schooling (until the propaganda pushers get it forbidden anyway).

That said, I wasn't trying to attack your statements... Merely to point out we've gotten modest support from Democrats. IE, they're not all Alvin Holmes with his Chivas Regal....

Bottom line, the perp is an idiot to be brewing in a dry county, and is probably fortunate with the way things played out.

That said, from the linked article, the picture with the guy holding the 'shine clearly shows a beer rig and a carboy of beer. So our idiot not only was brewing in a dry county, he had some bought 'shine on the premises, which clearly didn't help his case.

Meh...

Cheers!

This is the "still"

They sell "shine" in mason jars at the liquor store all over the place around here. Georgia Moon and Ole Smokey are two that come to mind. Peel the paper label off and it looks just like what Barney Fife is holding up.

Also, there is currently no legal difference in brewing in a wet vs dry county in Alabama.

This was a mighty fine event! We had about 350 folks come through the Brewery today. Had 25-26 "legal homebrews" on tap. The event started at 2pm and the first sixtel blew around 4:30. Most folks only brewed one sixtel, so once it blew that tap closed down. By 6pm, we were down to about half the number of taps.

The weather put a damper on the crowd. Had the rain held off, I think the crowd would have stayed strong. Once it got to raining good, the incoming folks slacked off and the crowd started to shrink.

There were at least 3 TV stations there, so maybe we will see some media from the event soon!

I am a product of that school system. I probably went to one of the bottom 10% of high schools (BC Rain)in one of the worst school systems in the Nation. I turned out OK. I provide comfortably for a family of 4, wife doesn't have to work. School/education is what the student and their parents make of it. Just my opinion. :off: sorry for the diversion.

I for one am not convinced. You did turn out to be a homebrewer! ;)

I'm a product of this school system too and was left with no other option than to play catch up to further my education. Also, a high school dropout can provide for their family. Education is only a tool admittedly but they're supplying rusted out implements with dry rotted handles.

Anyways, keeping fingers crossed for a little luck tomorrow.

We are #3 on the proposed SOC for April 2nd.

http://www.legislature.state.al.us/prefiled/calendar.html

Here's to hoping that they make it that far!

A question keeps coming to my mind, so I'll ask. If our bill both comes up and passes tomorrow, how long do we have to get it through the senate? Last year's experience tells me that 3 days is probably not enough, so I hope we have a lot more time than that. Also, it would be nice to rule out a pocket veto from our governor.

I guess I could look at the legislative calendar, but it's so much more pleasant to go to homebrewtalk instead. Also, someone might know how ready the wheels may be to turn in the senate.

Thanks. I just happened to read an article this afternoon which mentioned that.

So, we should have a much better chance than last year, provided the general stalling from the minority party is over and does not arise again due to something else.
