I just decided to try making some mead about 3 weeks ago. I have 5 1 gal batches going but Ive read so many different things about racking mead, as in how long to wait how much sediment to expect, what gravity it should be at etc... Ive got a 1 gal batch with 3lbs honey and 1 1/2 lbs blueberries with about an inch of sediment in it already at 20 days. Still bubbling at more than one per 20 secs. Should I rack it? And when I do rack it should I worry about all the space left in the bottle without the blueberries, if so what should I do about it?

Let it slow down until it is working at less than one bubble per minute. You can make up the lost volume with sanitized marbles to keep the airspace to a minimum.

Wine and liquor stores sell cans of Argon that is used to preserve opened bottles of wine. You could obtain one of these Argon spray cans & give it a shot in the carboy to create a protective Argon blanket over the mead.

Curious if anyone has issues with this technique.
