AG stand...

So, I've been brewing for years but never had the time/$ to move into AG. Still don't have either, but now I have a drive... I want to build a mobile three tier stand and have been sifting through the setups of dozens of posts. I had an idea that I hadn't come across and wanted to see if anyone had some thoughts on completing it.

Thought process: I need a stand which could be disassembled. Why not use a steel square sign post which has multiple holes, as the center piece which I could bolt on shelves and stabilizing brackets. I'd also need a base so it wouldn't tip over, and would bolt on some sort of stabilizing metal pole... but not sure. The kicker here is that I don't know what type of shelves I could outfit this with. I'm fairly confident that there's something already out there I could use... ideas?

you could use slotted angle iron and bolts. Pretty much the same idea as yours, but use it for the whole stand. Then you can unbolt to smaller peices to transport. Just make sure you get some suff that'll hold the wieght and you should be fine.

I bought/made stand exactly that you are describing. I found heavy duty 18x48 metro shelf with casters on CL ($40 or 50), friend of mine made a burner stands (i use NG) and we put everything together in my garage. I made 4 AG batches so far and i love it, I add water to HLT (using garden hose) on top and then just have to open valves when needed, few hours later i have cooled (i use CFC) in my fermenting buckets. When not in use i store stuff (bottles and buckets) on the shelve

Hmmm... yeah, I guess I am! I hadn't seen that and got all excited until I saw the $500+ price tag. Looks like its well designed with some kind of slot system instead of my bolted shelves too. And I hadn't thought of casters either... I guess I'll call mine the po' man's lower tier brewing stand.

but instead ... Use a heavy duty sign post as the center structure...(or maybe 2 bolted together to form a cube?)

and maybe use the slotted steel to bolt to the post as your shelves? Say 2 pieces perpendicular to post about 14" apart ... Then 2 pieces coming off the Top piece straight out and 2 off the bottom @ an angle for support (add a piece in here to mount a burner maybe)

Crazyseany... Well there are sign posts that already come as square. But the width is only about 2". I think I understand what you're saying, but help me understand here... I'm not familar enough with slotted steel. How would I attach them perpendicular? Just using an angle bracket? From what I see online is 18g sturdy enough, even with the angled support you mention, to hold the ~120lb from a filled keggle? As for the bottom... why would you puta perpendicular then angle? I'd think just an angle from the center stem would be more supportive.

i bought one of these and it's great. it can be disassembled and stored in a very small space, holds three 15 gallon keggles easily and it looks good to boot. i could have cobbled something together for cheaper but i have too many projects going already.

Yeah, its that $500 price tag that kills me. I was looking for a tiered system for under $100 that I could break down with some ease and would fit in a corner without encroaching on the wife's drive portion of the garage. I'm going to have to look further into slotted steel and see how it can attach...

Build your own stand out of T-slot. Basically the same stuff that the top tier is made out of.
Probably won't be under 100......but it will be a lot better than 500

I'm making one out of t-slot and so far its going pretty good, I used faztek.net for the stuff and also there is a post somewhere of the finished product. I'll link it in just a second. But it'll be about $500 complete with two burner tiers and one shelf tier. That price includes kettles and all the hardware too.

actually once I hit "quote" the pic made more scense... I thought to bolt 2 sign posts together to make a cube(we are talking the green posts right?) then use the slotted steel to bolt coming out in your pic... I guess for the angled support bracket you wouldn't even need the slooted steel ... Could use anything if you can drill a bolt hole or 2 in it...

not sure what it would take to hold the weight... I guess when I posted I was imagining using the slotted angled steel (L shapped)
