adding Lemons to secondary

Is adding cut up Lemons to secondary fermenter ok to do?

if you find a way to sanitize them first. Probably the best way it to soak them in a little vodka and just pour that into your secondary

I would suggest just adding zest. I added slices of oranges and it turned very bitter due to the pith. I know it was the pith as it was a split batch with the other half in cherries that turned out great.
