This is a beer with a real following here, but hits my palette like a BMC. The flavor profile is nice, but it lacks the hop presence, a decent amount of bitterness. A light, easy drinking beer, but missing something. To be honest I wouldn't walk across the street for a Cold Smoke.

Cold Smoke has an interesting flavor foundation, and I've been thinking of "hopping it up" a bit, at least into the mid 30's.

I'm interested in what people have done with the basic recipe, and what the results were. I'm thinking one would need to be careful to stay with appropriate hops like Fuggles, Goldings, Willamette, Hallertau, Challenger perhaps.... Clearly "fruitiness" doesn't belong here, but floral and spicy does.

Excuse my BMC comment but that is the way I feel about Cold Smoke. It has a lot of fans....... I'm not one of them.

I'd say that most people who have made a clone recipe of Cold Smoke did so because they liked Cold Smoke, so I doubt you'll find people who put a considerable amount more hops in there. If it sounds like a good idea to you, I say go for it.

Interesting, At Kettle Houses tap room in Missoula, they have Cold Smoke on tap with additions / infusions, the last one I tasted was cinnamon. Very interesting taste.
