Rookie here...I had some friends tell me to sprinkle a little bit of priming sugar in Carboy after racking to get the yeast going again. Thoughts??

My thoughts:

1) No need to get the yeast going again after racking as the whole point of racking to the secondary is to remove the beer from the sediment in the primary. Adding sugar would cause additional sediment.
2) No need to rack to a secondary at all. A long primary (4 to 8 weeks) and then bottling/kegging is more than adequate.

I don't think you need to. There should be enough yeast leftover in your secondary after racking to finish up the little bit of work left, assuming you were at or very close to FG. The only time I add priming sugar is in the bottling bucket when bottling.

+1 Racking is done after the yeast are done and you want them to go to sleep, flocculate and sink to the bottom of the carboy. Trying to "get them going again" is counter productive.

I'm guessing he wants to revive fermentation a bit to create a protective layer of CO2, perhaps if the secondary carboy is too big.
