Add hop flavor to finished beer

I have a Scottish 80 that I really like. I'm considering using it as a base for a hoppy brown simply by adding a bunch of hop flavor and aroma and some bitterness. I would like to do some experimenting with the finished beer by making some hop tea to add to get a feel for where to take the recipe. Anybody have experience with this technique? Thanks.
