Accidental sour, but I kinda like it?!

Recently I brewed this. (hope off site links are allowed.)

It was absolutely awful, metallic and gross in May, and didn't make it to the home brew festival.

I'm clearing out and I've found the keg. The problem occurred when the lid on my value keg split. It spent about a day with a hole in the lid, during which time some of the metal fell off - there was a chunk of metal residue floating in the beer itself, so I resealed it and hoped for the best. As you guys probably don't get the value kegs we have over here in the UK here's a link to one.

inside is an s30 valve with a nut (looks a bit corroded on mine.)

I thought I'd try a sample and it tastes like a berlinner weisse, and apart from the sourness, no real off flavours. It's quite fruity and I'd probably enjoy drinking it, particularly as it'll get better with age and I no longer use value kegs so space isn't an issue.

Is there any reason not to drink it?

Metal residue and corrosion products in the beer sitting in a broken leaking keg. Tastes infected.

If you can't think of a reason not to drink it, have at it.;)
 
I'm not sure I'd drink it. Not sure it is even a sour...accidental or not. It sounds like it could be bad for you to drink from a broken keg where there is corrosion. I'm no scientist.
 
Well I've done a little research and it certainly seems that not much can survive in beer, and the acid causing bacteria (if any) must be good ones - lacto, brett, and not aceto which is the vinegary one. I will add the keg was sealed again after 24 hours of exposure, so isn't likely to change apart from any sour maturation. it has a pressure release valve if anything kicks up (which I guess will be slow anyway.)

still no real solid info from experience though.
 
are you serving this via tap since its a keg? Just remember it will contaminate your tap lines and faucets
 
I didn't have the adapter for my wort chiller yet, so I had to hook it up to the spigot outside. Left it outside covered in foil for a little too long and got Brett in my stout. If you drink it as a sour stout, it has the definite characteristics. Seems like most sours are born out of mistakes.
