So I finally scored a cheap craigslist mini fridge for fermentation control and lagering. It's an old school brown Absocold model#CMR60S7B26. Pretty typical on military bases.

Anyway, I can fit a keg in there easily, but I need to remove the door shelf to fit a bucket fermenter. It's an older model, so the door shelf is all molded plastic. I'll take a box cutter to it to remove it, but the issue I could use some help with is the door gasket. The door gasket was all torn up and completely useless.

What are some options to replace the gasket? Since I can fit a bucket and keg in there, I would rather just use the fridge as is as opposed to building a larger 2x4 based ferm cabinet. Would high density weatherstripping tape suffice for a seal? Or grab a few feet of foam rubber bulb seal from mcmaster be a better option?

Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

I am sure that you can find that gasket somewhere online. If not since it will only be used as a fermentation chamber, I would try and match the style of the gasket design with any replacement. Use some rubber mender at the cuts, should work great. Short screws in the door won't hurt any as long as the rubber covers the head of the screw.

Got a hold of the manufacturer and can order a replacement for $15 plus shipping. Now hopefully the fridge lasts a good bit to warrant the new gasket.
Cheers for the assist.

No prob, that older fridge will probably hold up a long time. Plus you aren't trying to keep milk cold, just trying to get to 65 or so. In the air conditioning is a plus on wear and tear. Glad you found one. I wish I had a closet with a window in it. I would just put a 110 air conditioner in it ;)

Glad you got it under control.:mug:
