folks, i'm fixing to brew up my second batch -- all extract plus steeping grains, american style ale and i CAN'T WAIT.

anyhow, all this prepping and studying this forum and various books and whatnot in front of the fiance' (wedding in october) has, in fact, led to a problem.............no, not about spending too much...............yet;) , but, she had a sam adam's summer ale the other night while we were bbq'in and posed this request.........................."if you're gonna get into this, that's fine.............i really like this summer ale."

now, i've known her for several years and dated, and have decided she's "the one".........................as such, i KNOW, this was double naught secret spy talk for "i EXPECT the next brew to be something like that summer ale." bwahaha

i gotta admit, while not really what i was expecting, i liked it myself, so it's not a lost cause...

can/will/would anyone consider pointing me to a nuts and bolts start in this venture? i'm thinking that i should NOT consider a wheat as an alternative but again, i yield to the fact i don't know nearly as much as 90% of ya'll.

any help???? and, i'll even say please :) ;)

I've never tried SA summer ale but it IS a wheat beer. I'd say basically find a recipe for a Belgian Wit and use an American Ale yeast on it. You'll get the citrus from orange peel (maybe throw a little Cascade hops in for good meaure). This is something you can do with all DME like Muntons wheat.

SA Summer Ale is a wheat beer brewed with grains of paradise and lemon zest. AHS has a clone kit for it. I purchased it a few weeks ago and it is now bottled. I will know in a week or two how it tastes and let you know.

First off, congrats on the upcoming wedding. I hope you are on the way to many happy years together. Learning to understand what she actually meant, not what she said is a big step towards those happy years.

I haven't done a SA Summer Brew, but my LHBS, Maryland Homebrew, has a Belgian Wit that I made and it turned out really well. The recipe is on their site. I love that citrus taste. The wit had orange peel and coriander, as others have said, the SA Sumer Brew has a bit of lemon. Good luck with it.
