a big mistake?

i put some sterilizing powder in a fermenter to wash it but got distracted and left it. later my cleaner put bleach in the bucket and there seems to have been a reaction. all seems fine now, just a bit of choking which has passed and runny nose.

1) was that some sort of harmful gas? if the sterilizing powder is made from ammonia i know that could be a problem, but i have no clue what its made of.

2) is the fermenter unusable?

and yes, i know i fail science for leaving chemicals unattended.

oh by "cleaner" i was trying to be politically correct. it was my maid. all her fault. am i going to die?

but the sanitized is one which i mix a table spoon into 2L of water and can re-use until cloudy. not sure if that'll help identify it

you produced chlorine gas by mixing your cleaners. be sure to ventilate that area.

the bucket should be fine. rinse well.

It is probably VERY clean. Rinse a LOT, but first get lots of fresh air and ventilate! Yikes!

and yes the bottom of the bucket has a freakishly clean patch.

While I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I am not a health care provider. If something like this happens again try to get some professional help, especially if you think your life may be in the balance. You may find good info here but next time you could potentially be dead before you obtain said knowledge. Not trying to be a jerk, just wanted to point that out.

It is not uncommon to find people dead from mixing cleaners and bleach while cleaning a closed bathroom. My wife works in Housekeeping in a hospital and they have to take regular safety classes on what can and what must not be done with cleaning agents.

I have an alkaline cleaner that I always wanted to see what would happen if I mixed it with an acidic sanitizer.

cluckk, while doing some research on whether or not I would die, i can across a site that said some mixtures can cause explosions. what im trying to say is stream it over the internet if you do it.
