Did anyone else enter the 8 Seconds of Froth Competition that was held on May 19th? The winners were posted a couple days after the competition and I was pleased to see that one of my beers had placed. I settled in to wait a couple more weeks to receive the judging sheets, and they came today.
I opened the sealed manila envelope and found only a ribbon and two page print out stating that they had left a box of score sheets at the competition and they had been thrown away. My scores were listed in a cut out piece of paper so I at least know my scores, but I'm pissed.
I do not enter competitions to win ribbons. I enter them to get knowledgeable feedback on how to improve my beer. They charged $7 an entry and I entered three beers. Honestly, I don't even know if they judged the beers or if they just pocketed my check, because there is no score sheet.
I try to be selective on the competitions I enter. I try to avoid any "1st Annual" competitions. This was the "18th" Annual competition so my expectation was that my beer would judged in a solid competition with skilled judges and a club that had experience holding a competition. That's why I had no problem paying the entry fee and the shipping cost to mail my entries.
Ordinarily, I would post this in the competitions forum, but it's so convoluted that I doubt anyone would see it. Do we really need a forum for every state?
I feel that they should refund the fees for the entries that had their score sheets lost. Has this happened to anyone before and is someone or a contact at BJCP that I should get in touch with? If I was a new brewer this would certainly turn me off of future competitions.
