I know that when it comes to secondary fermentation you want to leave as little head space as possible to reduce amount of oxygen exposure but what about for the primary? I have a 60L speidel fermenter that has been just sitting around for a year unused because I typically do all 5 gallon batches and primary in 6 gallon carboys. I'd like to try out the speidel with a west coast DIPA that I'll be brewing soon. Expecting the volume in primary to be 6 gallons. Is 6 gallons in a 60L fermenter for primary OK? I would assume that the CO2 will still just fill in the extra space and should be fine but wanted to make sure not missing anything. Thanks.
