Hi - all you fellow brewers,
After being out of the brewing scene for several years i thought i would dust off and Clean :) all my equipment, and have a go at making some Mead.

Never done it before, so thought i would give it a go.
I've gone for a basic Mead recipe, A maple Mead recipe, and a fire mead recipe with a little kick to it.

I will be also doing some small batches of cider in Demi-Johns and some 25L batches of beer , Ginger beer, larger and a stout later on in the week.

I have also treated myself to some pressure kegs to see how they tunr out, but will be bottling a lot and leaving for a while to age etc.

Any tips on the mead making are always welcome.
I have only gone for Cheap honey for this batch, but depending on the outcome - will look into others.

Checked this morning- all 3 bubbling away nicely .

Will check in soon, and read through a few forums to catch up on the brewing scene.

Byeee.

Hiya scrappybill - and welcome. In my opinion the secret to making a really good mead is to focus on making what is called a traditional mead - that is a mead made with only honey, water, yeast (and nutrients). When you can make a good trad mead - and that is a real challenge because there is no smoke and no mirrors to hide any flaws - then you can make any mead.

There is more to mead than meets the eye, lol, it's a begger. I have just bottled my first 'Bonfire Night' mead with black treacle, and it tastes sort of OK, a bit young yet and a bit of a beer taste to it, but hopefully ready for November, and about for halloween.

Elsewise, welcom, they are a good bunch and the banter is quite good, and toasting everyones health is even better, Hic', LOL.
