3/8" outlet pipe on keggles

Recently finished building my single-tier stand, and I acquired 3 keggles, each with 3/8" threaded pipe welded on. I'm wondering: does this limit me to 3/8" plumbing throughout the system? I'd like to use 1/2" silicone tubing on my march pumps, and the quick disconnects I've found all seem to be 1/2". But if I use 1/2" lines and fittings throughout, aren't I still restricted to the 3/8" flow from the initial outlet of the keggles??

Should have paid more attention in my fluid dynamics classes I guess. Thanks for any help!

I'm thinking the same way you are, 3/8" will only allow so much flow from the keggle. Look on the bright side though, 3/8" fittings are a lot cheaper. If you need to adapt to 1/2" camlocks, just use a hex bushing that goes from 1/2" to 3/8". http://www.stainlessbrewing.com/Hex-Bushing_p_14.html

Yes, you're limiting the flow, but in my usual brew day, I seldom ever use the pump at full blast. I usually put back-pressure on the outlet side of the pump.

It doesn't limit what you do in the rest of the system, but it will impact your flow and my concern is when you have grain or particulate going through one of those it will be easier to clog. I'd seriously think about having those cut off and 1/2" welded on. FWIW I use 1/2" fittings, but 5/8" ID hose everywhere. You really don't want restrictions in your fittings or your hoses - you can control flow with valves and that is what you want.

I don't know that I would go to expense of cutting out and replacing what you have.
I would go with 1/2" in the rest of your system though. 3/8 throughout will cause way more resistance than 1/2 throughout with 1-3/8 fitting.

It was an extreme suggestion yes. But - the resistance point you're talking about is a pretty critical one. The last thing you want happening is a clogged port.
