So I would like to get two kits to brew but one says it has a primary and secondary fermentation do I really need the secondary or can I just ferment it for 3 or 4 weeks in primary then bottle for 2 months wile I'm deployed? It's a caribou slobber that I'm looking at on northernbrewer.

Off hand I'd say you are just fine. I don't think that recipe requires a 'racking'. There are some who swear by secondary and others who swear at it.

If you are adding something - like fruit, hops, etc after an initial ferment, then racking can be helpful. Otherwise, I skip them myself. (swear at catagory)

You can just primary for 3-4 weeks yes. In fact many including myself usually only use primary and skip the secondary all together for most beer styles.
EDIT-swear at category +1

Sweet thank you so much guy. And it's been a little bit since my last brew it's 1.5 gallons of water for every lbs of grain for your mash tun right.

1.5 Quarts per gallon mash, sparge with remainder quantity water needed. At least that's what I use, you can go from 1.25 to 1.75 qts/lb.
