Being born Dutch, speed skating of course. :D
I can hardly believe the times they make nowadays.

Pretty much everything else except, sorry, hockey.

Aside from NBC on TV and web, watching the BBC feeds through a VPN. No soap there.

Mens' hockey started up yesterday, and the US, Russia, and Canada are all in action today. Russia and the US both started their games at 6:30am (Central) this morning, with Canada dropping the puck at 11:0am (Central). Russia had some early trouble with Slovenia, but look like they're going to pull away late. The US having no trouble with Slovakia, putting up 6 (yes, SIX!!!) goals in the 2nd. They're on cruise control for the rest of the game.

First big game is Saturday morning here in the States, with US and Russia facing off at 6:30am (Central). I'll be up early to watch, followed by a brew day!

I get up for the mens and women's downhill big time, though I only watch it in the Olympics. I can't think of another sport that rides the hairy edge more than this one. Anyone remember this one from 1998? Its one of my favorite Olympic memories (nevermind the foreign language audio). Guy is friggin' Superman for getting back up.

I also like watching the hockey, short track speed skating, luge/bobsled, moguls, and alpine events. The new slopestyle is pretty entertaining as well. Winter Olympics >> Summer Olympics!

I was really excited for this, but sometime in the 2nd it lost its edge. Maybe it was the 6 goals... So I switched to Russia/Slovenia and that's when the Russians started pulling away. DAMN IT. Honestly, I think the Women's hockey games have been more exciting. They seem to be playing with more of an edge. The men's teams are just a bunch of shuffled up NHL/KHL players.

I also saw team luge today for the first time. That was neat to watch.

I can't get enough curling. Had the opportunity to actually try it out last year (there's a curling club near where I live that offered lessons) and I think it is so much fun. Hard but so much fun

I always try and watch curling whenever I can during the games

I'm tired of the "finger painting" Women hockey is every bit exciting as men's hockey. Curling rocks, but I miss the old brooms.

Stink bomb Slovaks are taking mother Russia to another shoutout. I guess Kovy will be the only shooter for Russia.

How many hours of figure skating can there be? I like the old days, they had the single woman's which included the school figures that they no longer do, the men single, and pairs, that was enough. If I wanted to watch all the rest of this crap I'd tune to ballroom dancing or Dancing with the stars.

Finland may pull an upset. Russia looked weak in their grouping. US took it to Slovakia and beat Slovenia way more convincingly. If the Fins pull the upset it would be the ultimate in Schadenfreude.

Russia is kind of like the Argentina of hockey. Their attacking players are amazing with Datsyuk, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin, Malkin, etc. But their defenders and goalies are nothing to write home about. Still think that Canada likely takes it, but the US getting on the podium would rock. Canada just has too much going for them, deep defensively, and tons of weapons offensively.

US seems to be coasting along thanks heavily to having no weaknesses, strong tending, strong defense, and strong offense. They're not the best in any of those categories most likely, they're just doing great across the board. Kind of like how the Seahawks won the Superbowl, they weren't heavily weighted offensively or defensively, they were great.

Spot on! Then again, how many hours of curling and hockey does anyone need? For me, it's none.
Shouldn't there be a large amount of personal athletic effort involved to be included in the Olympics? Isn't that what it was about back in the Greek era?

Now being able to go downhill an icy slope on a pair of skinny slats at 70-80 mph, without breaking every bone in your body, still boggles my mind. How does that measure up against say, curling? Come on!

Still haven't tuned into any curling. The hockey action has been exciting so far. I'm kind of surprised by Russia's play. Really liking Team USA so far. Canada is strong, as always, as expected.

Things will defintely get more interesting after the preliminary rounds.

Dude, they got beat yesterday but you really need to find some re-runs of the Russian women's curling team. ;)
