20 liter keg, same as corny??

So up here in Ontario Canada, cornies seem a bit hard to find for a half decent price at this point. However the local beer stores sell 20 liter kegs with a $20 deposit, so if I could go in there, toss down $80 of deposit, that should give me 4 x 20l kegs.

But are these kegs the same as cornies, or are they very diffrent? Are these still usable and does anyone have experience with them?

They are sanke kegs, not soda (corny) kegs. They are usable and people have used them in a homebrew setting but most people would not recommend it. They are much harder to clean without special equipment than a corny.

Without discussing the legal and moral issues with this (which I am sure someone else will bring up), given the dimensions they listed, I cannot say for sure. My best guess is that it maybe a pin lock corny. I dont remember who makes it but I am pretty sure that there is a corny that is shorter and wider then normal. The best way to find out would be call them up and see what kind of connections it takes. If you have them then you are set, if not you can always get some.

Sounds like the ones you are looking at are commercial 1/6 kegs that use a sankey coupler. Corny kegs are old soda kegs.

Lots of people would frown on this method of getting a keg. I'm sure the brewpub would also have an issue with giving out empty kegs for just the deposit price.

Now I'm sure places like that would possibly have kegs that they don't want to use anymore that could possibly be picked up cheap and just need some refurbishing.

The Beer Store is not a brewpub, its a massive Canadian owned corporation. Does that make it any better no? But would I feel bad about it? Not really. I know its not ideal but at this point Id like to move to kegging soon and am tossing ideas around. Also cornies are damn hard to find up here for a halfway decent price

Right, i think these look just like a corny, but use the sanke coupler.

The point of a deposit is to encourage you to return the kegs, not to actually buy the keg. If you want to know the actual price of a keg, check out some threads concerning this. If stealing a keg doesn't bother you, that's fine with me, but let's not talk about it on a public forum.
