I ordered my first bulk hops today.

1 lb. each Tettanger, Hallertauer, Cascade, Centennial, Magnum, Saaz, and Willamette.

Is there anything you would add to this?

I gotta figure out what bulk grains to buy next?

I brew mostly Belgian beers, so 4 pounds of hops has lasted me over a year. I'm about halfway through. Next time I need to buy some, I'll probably buy half that. But if you're a hop head, they'll go quickly.

If there is a local maltster, I would recommend that for the grains. There is one not too far from here in CO that makes the best malt I've ever had. My best beers have been just with that pale malt, no specialties.

I've just gotten back into the hobby but I built a nice stand and figured I better buy in bulk to keep cost down. I've also never brewed a SmAsH but I'm looking forward to it. From reading around I'm thinking 2 row domestic, marris otter, and a import pilsner.

What styles do you typically brew? I like Nugget for bittering darker beers.

I'm just getting started again. As of lately i've brewed a SNPA clone, and a Octoberfest. I just made a list of beers I'd like to brew and bought hops ahead of time, i paid $3/oz. at my LHBS. I really like english ales and pilsners though.

EDIT: OOPS....Sorry, just googled your location...
I was thinking you were in NORTH Lima, OH which is close to Youngstown....Sorry ...

Hey TCH1980 -

Are you close to Youngstown, OH? I suggest the Pumphouse in Struthers, OH. Gregg - the owner - is a great guy, very knowledgeable and helpful - has been brewing for many years. I buy ALL my grain though him - his bulk/bag prices are cheaper than you could find anywhere when you figure shipping. (Assuming you are close enough to pick up) You just have to give him a week or two heads up to get it ordered for you.

Now for hops, I use www.hopsdirect.com as the Pumphouse only sells by the ounce, not the pound.
