Did the Centennial Blonde today, didn't come near target OG. Had problems and don't know what was the cause. OG should have been 1.04. I got 1.027. Thought the mash tub would lose more temp and it was too hot. Mashed at about 158 1 hour. Then the grains may have not been crushed enough, several were still whole looking but when picked up they broke open. We have a Phil's sparge arm but chose to fly sparge for our first time. Definatly a light color, had good smell. Oh well, it was a learning process.

How long did you sparge for?

My first all grain batches I drained just about as fast as I could... That doesnt work so well... now after a few good laughs and some instruction from some other local home brewers I sparge for an hour.
