That sucks. I dropped a full carboy on my foot once. Didn't break the carboy, thought it broke my foot though. Got the carboy in the fridge for fementation and drove myself to the hospital. The foot was swelling and badly bruised. Luckily the x-rays didn't show any break. Hurt like h#ll. But I saved the beer....

Like everyone said. Get back on the horse. Each time you brew, it gets easier.

I have a couple of those plastic milk crates. They are a perfect fit for the 6 1/2 gallon carboys. I use them to drain as well by simply placing the rinsed out carboy upsidedown. They are perfect and the plastic is much more forgiving on glass than concrete.;)

Just make sure the milk crate is the really strong sturdy type not some el cheapo milk crate look alike.

You have my deepest symptahies. What you described is one of my worst fears/scenarios! Fortunately (knocks wood), I haven't had it happen. I, too, always set my carboys on carpet or a folded towel.

Good recommendation on the plastic nozzle sprayer, KalvinEddie. I never thought about it before, but I have one and, now that I think about it, I'm always tapping the thing against the glass carboy!:drunk:

From time to time I've thought about fashioning some sort of 'boot' for the bottoms of all my carboys. Something that would be rubber with a foam lining and conform to the carboy, yet would be removable for cleaning. Hmmm...

I've been thinking the same thing. I have about 5 carboys all sitting next to each other, and when I sit one down after cleaning, I always seem to accidentally clang them together. I'm just waiting to see one (or both) shatter when I do it. I was thinking about a boot that goes 3/4 of the way up, rubberized to prevent slippage and accidental clanging against something. I'd like to see something with some handles for easier carrying.

I have one of the nylon strap carboy carriers. It's nice, except for the pain in the ass to put it on and take it off to move more than 1 carboy a day. And at like $12 a hit, I don't have the urge to purchase 5 of them.

I really need to replace my carboys with BBs.

Those heavy duty milk crates are perfect. They hold my 6 1/2 gallon glass carboys upside down for draining and they are a nice snug fit.

That along with making sure my work/cleaning area has some carpet remnants. Nothing more spine tingling than the sound of heavy glass being set on concrete.

I'm making the transition to Better Bottles, I know how 1-6gal and 1-5gal. I still have a 5-gal glass carboy but I'll use that until it breaks I guess. Hopefully it won't be full of beer at the time.

I'm to old and weak to be lifting full carboys around so I modified furniture moving dollies I got from Harbor Freight for about 9.99 each( I shortened them from 18" to 12" )
They are now 12" square and will hold all kinds of weight.
They have 4 swivel casters on them and they are made of oak and covered with carpet.
I just put my carboys on them and push them anywhere I need to.
