I have had rats chew there way through some of my rubbermaid containers out in the garage...not my grains though. Just keep an eye on it to make sure you don't start seeing any bit marks on the containers.
 
I meant weevils and other such nasties that seem to spontaneously infest rice and beans that have been sitting around too long. I have heard most grains have some form of pest eggs in them and given enough time (or perhaps moisture) will hatch and infest the grain. I've seen it happen first hand with rice. Perhaps the kilning process of malted barley kills off the wee beasties and makes it easier for long term storage.
 
I use an airtight pet food container from walmart for the bag i have open but i only buy one bag at a time. What about using these for long term storage?
 
Has no one experienced any kind of pest infestation with grains stored 1+ years?
