I have a small 120 volt PID controlled system with a 2000 watt element that I have used with a 20 kitchen GFI wall outlet. . What will the difference be between brewing with a 20 amp wall outlet as apposed to a 15 wall outlet?

With a 15 amp outlet you are limited to a maximum of a 1800W heating element, but depending on the health and trip curve of your breaker, you might not actually be able to use 1800W for more than a few seconds or minutes. The practical limit for a 15A circuit is about 1650W. A 1650W element will take around an hour to bring ~6 gal of room temp water to a boil. You might not even be able to boil larger volumes. So, the biggest difference will be longer heat-up times.

Brew on :mug:

thank you, this I have used for years on a 20 amp breaker. It is good for 2.5 - 3 gallon brews. I have since graduated to 240 V 30 amp HERMS system but am redoing the controller for this one (originally in a emptied computer case but now have a nicer smaller control box for it) . I will use it for a few small brews and then decide if I want to continue using it for smaller brews or sell it.
