I am going to be installing two 120v water heater elements in my 14 gallon ss kettle. My question is regarding what size I should get, the space I am going to be brewing in has two 20 amp circuits, but all of the outlets on those circuits are only 15 amp. Am I asking for trouble using 2kw elements that draw 16.667 amps or should I play it safe and go with 1500w elements that only draw 12.5 amps?

I am doing 5 gallon all grain batches.

I use 1650W elements I got for $10.. 1 goes into a 15A and the other goes through my control box and into a 20A circuit.

The volt/ammeter on my control box reads 120v/ 13.8A when its running 100%

Check the gauge of the wire. If it is 12awg, then I would swap the outlets with 20a GFCI outlets, and go with 2000w elements. If it is 14awg, I would still swap them out with 15a GFCI outlets (if they are not already GFCI), and go with 1650w or 1500w elements.
