I'm about to switch from 5g to 10g and I'm looking for tips on what people do with the "second 5g". My plan was to put one 5g batch online for serving and store the second 5g for later. I started to read that kegs should be stored at 55 when not in use and I only have a single extra chest freezer and that is used for fermentation. I'm wondering if most people also have a spare temp controlled area for storing the extra 5g or are you putting both 5g batches online for serving?

I store my "offline" kegs in a spare refrigerator in the low 50's high 40's. If I did lagers I'm not sure where I'd put my kegs.

I store mine in the garage...usually about 65-70 ambient. depending on the style...a few months at room temp won't hurt them.

This isn't for 10 gallon batches its for anyone with a pipeline.I think most here wait till fermentation is finished and store the FV in uncontrolled area. Lots here have a large pipeline that would be next to impossible to keep in a temp controlled environment

Umm my 5-6 full kegs just sit in my kitchen under my bar countertop...

Good point, I updated the title to be more about "pipeline" than 10g batches.

Up until now I've stored my pipeline kegs at room temps but the more I started reading on the subject the more I saw people storing at 55 and how fast it can age the beer if stored higher.

I consider myself lucky to have a chest freezer for serving and another for fermentation. I guess this is a sanity check to see how many also have another chamber for pipeline storage/aging.

I was thinking of brewing more lagers with a 10g system because my fermentation chamber holds 10g at a time. But then I'd have to serve both at the same time when done since without a spare fridge I can't store the pipeline spare.

My fermentation chamber can hold about 60 gallons. My spare fridge *was* my fermentation chamber for 2 years and maximum I could get in there was about 14 gallons (2 7-gallon fermenters). :rockin:

I have 7 taps, I usually only have 3 or 4 different beers. I store the rest under the stairs, which is 68-71 degrees or in the ferm chamber if it's empty.
