Hi all.... Headed to my brew shop tomorrow and need extract recipe ideas. I would like to brew 10 gallons and split into 2 batches... Pitch different yeasts and maybe dry hop one of them to make them even more different.

Not a real big IPA fan... Although I don't mind a hoppy pale ale.

Maybe something of a Newcastle Brown ale clone for one of them...?.

I yield....

Baloo.

I don't have any specific recipe, and I'm not too sure about 2 different browns from the same boil, other than adding fruit or other flavors (coconut, vanilla, etc) after fermentation has completed.

my favorite split on 10gal batch is 5 gallon pale ale / 5 gallon saison. regular pale hop schedule during the boil. Pull 5 gallon out for saison, and then add additional hops for another 5 min boil / flame out hops.

pitch the saison yeast at mid to upper 60s (65-68 degrees) and then bring up to 70-72 over a couple of days
pitch an ale yeast in pale and ferment as normal

dry hop the pale after 2+ weeks of fermentation

I got it....

What about adding diferent malts at flameout.??? a dark malt for one.. and a lighter malt for the other.... maybe dry hop the lighter one...?????

You can make a brown and a pale from the same boil. I was just looking at the recipes in Brewing Classic Styles, the big difference is chocolate malt. So, brew your pale, steep your chocolate malt separately, and add it to half of the batch. Use different yeasts too if you wish. Right now I have a split Belgian batch in fermenters. Half is pale, the other half dubbel. The dubbel got candi syrup, the pale dry hopped. The possibilities are endless, but it's easier if you find two recipes with overlapping bitterness and mostly common malt bills. Let us know what you do and how it works.

I've never tried adding malt at flame out, but don't let that stop you. The great thing about this hobby is no matter what you try, likely you will have beer when it's done.

If you haven't done it before, I think different yeast and dry hop will be eye opener on how that will change your beer.

I'm in the middle of doing that right now. I brewed up an ESB base, hopping with Northdown and EKG, and it will get split into two 5gal batches. One will get Wyeast 1968 London ESB yeast, the other will get 1056 American Ale and some Ahtanum dryhopping. We'll see how much they differ.

Getting 10 gallons of beer from the same time frame is awesome... I will come up with something from these ideas and let you guys know.....

Thanks!
