Hi everyone, Im new to this game and just wanted some input to make sure im not destroying my batches. So my local store only sells 5 gal recipe kits. Im doing a few one gal batches of different recipes. For example I am brewing a Gaelic Ale clone, it calls for 6.6lbs of liquid malt and 1lb of dry malt extract. If my math is right (i convert everything to grams) 6.6lbs->2993.7g. Then do I divide that by 5 to get a 1 gal measurement? So 598.74g of liquid malt? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!
 
Beer recipes can be scaled up or down, so you have the right idea.

I would think measuring out liquid malt extract would get messy, though.
 
Agreed with ziggurat. The LME can get sticky and messy fast. You might head down to the store and explain to them that you're doing a 1 gallon batch and they may build it for you. Chances are, if theyre making the kits in house then they have a large drum of LME and pull from that. Most HB stores are super chill, so if you explain your "predicament" they may make an exception. Worth a shot. If not, then yes you have the right idea with splitting it
 
They probably have 55gal drums of extract in the back that they use to build the kits. It should not be a problem for them to give you the quantity you need. The other option is to just convert the recipe to DME.

Touche. And HERE is a good converter for LME to DME and vice versa
 
So I just got back with some ingredients and he gave me round about numbers to work with. I'll scale it by dividing by 5 and see how that goe. Thanks everyone for the input
