Hi,
I'm usually posting in the beer forum, but I've been thinking of something lately...

There are two main species of brewing yeast - ale and lager. (and brett, wild etc.)
As far as I know the ale yeast is the one used in wine.

I tried googling for "lager" wines, but couldn't find any information.

Are there any wines made with lager yeast?
I would imagine by it's characteristics that it could fit in a white wine...
If you know some webpage about this, please link it.

thanks.

there's a bit of information on the web about using lager yeast in cider, but I can't find anything on wine. The main (pertinent) difference between ale and lager yeasts is fermentation temperature. They are not really two "species," as they can be crossbred- Kolsch Yeast is a hybrid of ale and lager yeasts. I think there are too many disadvantages, as lager yeast produces less flavor- hops tend to make up for this in lagers- but without hoppiness, lager yeast basically makes for a substandard wine yeast (unless you need to ferment at exceptionally low temperatures?)
