    Travelling with a keg

BYO magazine had a good article this month on building a portable kegerator out of an igloo cooler utilizing 3 gal kegs. Looks awesome, I want to build one myself.

    Twist off bottles

Thanks guys. I think I'll try and steer clear of the the twist offs. Problem is finding alternatives around here.

    Twist off bottles

So I bought a capper and some caps and then proceeded to try and cap a few used beer bottles that I had lying around. The bottles were twist offs. I wasn't really able to get a good seal. Can I use twist offs?

    Bottling and carbonation

Thanks for the link as well :)

    Bottling and carbonation

Thanks Revvy. I was really referring to fermentation activity which carbonates the beer. I wasn't sure whether one should see activity similar to that of primary fermentation or not.

    Bottling and carbonation

So I bottled my first batch which I had sitting in the carboy since the end of November (about 6 weeks) stored at room temp. Because of X-mas and stuff I didn't have time until then and I've read of people leaving their beer in the secondary for a month or so. I primed with glucose before...

    Is my fermentation stuck?

Thanks Duderunner for the input and the link. My fermentation was in the carboy, not a bucket. The beer seems to taste good so I'm not going to sweat it. I'll wait another week or so and bottle and see how it turns out.

    Is my fermentation stuck?

Thanks for the link Randy. Sounds like my situation exactly. The beer doesn't seem all that sweet to me so maybe it is done fermenting. I was going to let it sit another week or so before bottling to be sure. BTW what alcohol content would it have now? I'm calculating 3.15% which is lower...

    Is my fermentation stuck?

So I put my first batch in the fermenter last week (9 days ago)....2 cans of Australian Bitters malt extract into a carboy with a blowoff hose. OG was 1.050. Temp in basement is over 20 Celsius. It bubbled furiously for 2 days and then slowed down considerably at which time I took another...

How is this brew going to turn out??

Hey Calder....not sure what yeast, it came in an unlabled foil packet. Sacchromyces (sp?) species of some sort. Thanks all for the positive words. I can't wait to try it now.

How is this brew going to turn out??

Thank Nurmey.....now that you mention it, that is pretty much how it tasted. :)

How is this brew going to turn out??

I was also a little worried that the type of beer ie: a bitter which is a strong tasting beer to begin with, would have an overpowering flavor using 2 cans. I tasted the sample when I took the first SG reading and I must say it tasted rather poorly, not that I'm really expecting it to taste...

How is this brew going to turn out??

There was no mention of the SG on the kit can other than to say to bottle when SG below 1.008. Does and SG of 1.050 seem like the right ballpark? Thanks guys!

How is this brew going to turn out??

So I put my first batch of beer into my fermenter yesterday. The kit that I bought was a 3.75lb can of malt extract (Australian Bitters BeerMakers brand) from Safeway which makes 23 L of beer. Instead of using the 1Kg of dextrose that the kit called for, I followed Charlie Papazian's advice...

    Priming question

I'm just about to brew my first batch. From what I have read before bottling, the preferred method of priming the beer for carbonation is to add sugar or malt to the fermented beer and then bottle. I take it however that you are not supposed to stir it. In my mind that is not going to give...
