Braided hose or Manifold? Which is better?

I also use a braid in a rectangular cooler. I get consistant 78% efficiency batch sparging.

Just brewed my 1st AG - Now I have ?s

COOLING: 25 ft. may be a bit on the small side. I use a 50 ft. and it cools a full boil very fast. As for not getting it below 70 degrees, what is your ground water temperature? If it's not much below 70 you won't be able to cool past that with your i/c.

    1st All-Grain a DISASTER!

I had the same problem with the same exact setup. The next time I brewed I pulled the tube out of the braid and I haven't had a problem since. It has not collapsed and no stuck sparge since I pulled the tube out.

    How to mash instant rice?

So I can just open the box and pour it right into the mash? Just making sure I don't have to pre-boil it before hand.

    How to mash instant rice?

I've got a question for the experts.:drunk: I'm going to brew biermuncher's cream of three crops this weekend. I'm using one pound of instant rice like in the recipe. Do I have to cook this beforehand or do I just open the box and pour it on top of my mash? I know I know use the search button.:p...

    All Grain yippee!!!

I have my 8 gallon brewpot double wrapped in the reflective bubble wrap. With 6.5 gallons the highest temp it will reach is 211.5. It is boiling at this point. I don't think it will go higher because I live in the ozark mountains in southern MO. I don't know our specific altitude, but it's quite...

    All Grain yippee!!!

Well I do have a patio on the first floor. But I don't think fire code, or my apartment manager will let me use a propane burner. I may just have to build a heat stick. Don't worry I have plenty of electrical experience. Although it will make me a bit anxious using something like that.

    All Grain yippee!!!

:rockin:Hey guys, I did my first all-grain full boil on my apartment countertop on Sunday night. I made Edwort's haus ale. Everything went great, except when my mash was just finishing up my power went out. The power was down for about an hour and a half. When it came back on I quickly...

    Mash twice boil once

Wow I love this site. You all are so helpful. I think I will drill my cooler and get the valve and braid. For cooling the wort what I'll do is use my tub that I use to cool my fermentor with a few bags of ice and a cookie sheet in the bottom so it won't burn the plastic. Can anyone tell me if 60...

    Mash twice boil once

I have the proper fermentor and a 5 gallon bb for secondary. My boil pot is 32 quart. I will do a water bath with 2 liter bottles of ice to maintain correct fermentation temp of around 60 degrees. I guess I should just pull out the old credit card and get a real mash tun huh? Cooling the wort...

    Mash twice boil once

I've got a decent sized cooler at home, but it doesn't have a drain. I don't have a hole saw or dremel to make the right size hole. I would already have a large mash tun if I did. The biggest thing I'm worried about is not collecting enough wort due to grain absortion to get to a 6.5 gallon...

    Mash twice boil once

Hey guys and gals, I need a little help here. I'm planning to do a kolsch for my next brew. I have a few partial mashes under my belt, but to save some money I want to do all grain on this one. The problem is I'm limited to my 2 gallon cooler. I can mash around 4.5 pounds of grain at one time...

    What a difference

That's pretty much my max right now for grain. I only have a 2 gallon cooler. Last night I ordered a 34 qt stock pot, so I'll get a bigger cooler and try to go as close to an all grain full boil as I can.

    What a difference

I tried a bottle of my first partial mash last night. It is a wheat kit from the homebrewery. I mash an extra pound of malted wheat and a pound of 2-row. I have done this same kit before with no partial mash, and the difference is amazing. It has a lot more wheat taste than the plain kit...
