    thermocoupler accuracy and rims build

So I got my rims system with Auber PID controller up and running this weekend. The build is essentially that written by Guy in his RIMs for dummies thread. I've was testing it out recirculating water and everything works perfectly except that the PV is about 4 deg F warmer than the thermometer...

    Heater element for RIMS

Hey Guy. Thanks for the tip on Google. I never heard of that before is it new? :) Just kidding my friend. I do appreciate your input . The problem is that I'm in Canada and the online shopping SUCKS. Importing from the US easily doubles the cost if you can find a retailer that ships to...

    Heater element for RIMS

I'm putting together my RIMS system and when looking for heater elements I'm having difficulty finding a low density element operating on 120v which is what I want to run it off. There seems to be a lot of choice in 240v. A couple questions: If running the 240v element in a 120v circuit is...

    Mash Paddle

Do the holes help stir the mash more completely?

    Mash Paddle

I just got a nice solid maple mash paddle from AHBS. Lovely bit of wood. The paddle itself is solid. Being new to brewing and having seen a lot of mash paddles with holes through them, my question is, should I get a hole saw and start cutting or should I leave it as is?

    RIMS ?Brass a good choice?

    Thanks Guy.

    RIMS ?Brass a good choice?

I was looking at going with the 1.5" based on Guy's original thread whereby many people responded that 1.5" would be more efficient than 2". Is there a general consensus on which size to get? Also, there is obviously a down side to going too short. I don't really see a down side to having the...

    RIMS ?Brass a good choice?

Murray is in the US. Online shopping unfortunately is not as convenient north of 49. Companies such as McMaster flatly refuse to ship to us.

    RIMS ?Brass a good choice?

Hey Guy. Thanks for the reply. Thanks for your great thread on building RIMS as well. I'm having problems sourcing copper fittings where I live. The brass fittings come in at $107 for the 1.5" nipples, a coupler, the Tees and the bushings. Not too bad. I was worried that the brass would...

    RIMS ?Brass a good choice?

source of quick disconnects other than McMaster

Thanks again. Ordered from Austin Homebrew today. Would have ordered from Bargain Fittings but they don't ship to Canada either.

source of quick disconnects other than McMaster

Thanks for the leads fellas. The disconnects are for plumbing the brewing hoses, not a keg system. I'll look for the camlocks. I'm not familiar with this kind of fitting. Are they nice to use?

source of quick disconnects other than McMaster

Hello all. Could somebody recommend a source of quick disconnects? Unfortunately McMaster-Carr won't sell to a Canadian customer even if the shipping address is in the US. I really hate that company for the way they treat Canadians, but their selection is pretty #$%# good.

How about this for an all-grain setup?

I am going to go with the 15gal pots, it works out to about 10% more $ for double the brewing capacity. I plan on getting a pump to move transfer between pots. I still need the hoses and fittings but I'll wait and see what I need once I get the other stuff set up. I have the rest of the...

How about this for an all-grain setup?

Thanks all for the input. I will look at bigger pots. I also would check out local brew clubs but I live in the boonies and I do not think there is a local club. I really wasn't interested in just buying fancy stuff because it is fancy stuff. I just didn't want to be taking the time and...

Hey Hopdawg, I'd be happy to recieve another quote.

How about this for an all-grain setup?

I just want to make sure that I get the correct stuff the first time and that I'm not replacing it a few months down the road.

How about this for an all-grain setup?

Better than what I am using now :) Seriously, I don't have the time or the patience to piecemeal a system together with DIY stuff. Usually it ends up being more expensive in the long run that way for me because inevitably I end up upgrading to the stuff I should have had to begin with. That...

How about this for an all-grain setup?

    I haven't brewed all grain before so I don't have a setup.
