    Propane burner suggestions?

KAB4. It heats fast, simmers well, and it's not noisy.

Bayou Classic cooker burner has too much orange

I'm having a similar issue with my BC KAB6, I can never quite get to a pure blue flame. Thanks for posting this, I'll try the washer to give it more air.

    Kegco Mill?

I've been using my Kegco 3 roller for about 4 years now. I am very happy with it, because I have not had a single problem with it. I adjusted the gap when I received it, and have not had to adjust it since. It just works, each and every time.

Cleaning a freshly purchased corny keg that smells bad?

Where I've noticed the most difference with the oxygen action is soaking labels off bottles. With a fresh hot batch of oxy cleaner some labels (Sam Adams & others) will float to the surface after several minutes. Thankfully I now keg and have a good supply of clean bottles, so I don't have to...

Cleaning a freshly purchased corny keg that smells bad?

As long as it's not scented it will work fine. As others have mentioned, use hot water. Also be aware that the oxy effect is most potent for only about 20min, so don't expect a solution that's been sitting around for a while to work like a newly mixed batch.

Would you brew in the bathroom?

The ability of the ice to cool the water is dependent on surface area, so the much larger surface area of a bag of small pieces of ice is going to be better than large chunks of ice frozen in bottles. I've tried it both ways. Using bagged ice I never have a problem getting quickly to pitching...

Would you brew in the bathroom?

A replacement faucet is pretty cheap, especially if you can replace it yourself. Recirculation is great for chilling, that's what I do. I first recirculate from a 5gal bucket of water, and save the resulting hot water as my wash water for cleanup. Then I switch to recirculating from a cooler...

Buckets Vs Carboys Vs Conicals, Vs Everything else

That's the theory. The reality is that some folks run a nano brewery out of their home. People "pay for ingredients" and receive beer. I don't do it, but I don't have a problem with those that do.

    Stainless fermenter... yes or no?

I started out purging liquid filled kegs with bottled CO2, but after the first time I purged with fermentation gas it worked so well that I haven't done it any other way since. I tried transferring with bottled CO2 once, but there's no real advantage to it when compared to a gravity powered...

    Stainless fermenter... yes or no?

You can build a collar on the front of your mini fridge to give you more depth. I got lucky and found a used Haier mini fridge (for wine) that has a clear curved front door. The curve in the door gives just enough space for a big mouth bubbler to fit. With the clear door and a clear fermenter I...

    Stainless fermenter... yes or no?

Put a $4 spigot on your bucket. That will enable you to do gravity powered closed transfers. See the photos in the post I referenced in post #30 above.

    Stainless fermenter... yes or no?

At one time it was thought that getting the beer off the trub was necessary, because of the belief that sitting on the trub was harmful to the beer. The conical shape minimized the contact the beer had with the trub. "Secondary fermetation" was done by racking to a secondary vessel (leaving the...

    Stainless fermenter... yes or no?

Scratches inside PET fermenters happen during cleaning. If you have an appropriate cleaning procedure the inside is not going to get scratched, and the "scratch prone" issue just goes away. Regarding plastic mold seams, etc, you mean like the ridges and tiny pockets that can be found in SS...

    Stainless fermenter... yes or no?

I chose clear PET fermenters for these reasons: Transparency allows me to see when the krausen has fallen (so I can bump up the temp), and when a cold crash has finished clearing the beer. Lightweight and easy to clean. Easily fit into my mini fridge fermentation chamber. Gravity powered...

    Fan for Keezer

One of the 3gal kegs overhangs the shelf, so I built a little extension for it to sit on. Underneath the extension is a quart of Starsan for my temp controller probe, which goes into a DIY thermowell in the top of the jar.

    Fan for Keezer

Magic Chef 5.2 cu.ft. It holds 2 5gal corny kegs on the floor, and two 3gal kegs on the shelf. I got it for $90 brand new, the box was slightly water damaged. I was originally looking for a freezer to hold four 5gal kegs on the floor, but when I came across that deal I just bought it. Turns out...

    Fan for Keezer

When I built my keezer I bought two of these dehumidifiers. I swap them out every month or so. I live in a very humid location, and I've had zero mold. In a year I haven't even had a need to clean the inside of the keezer. They plug into a wall socket, a little internal heater dries them out so...

    Fan for Keezer

I use an AC Infinity low speed fan. I have nothing but good things to say about that brand. They have several options: 120V, 12V, low speed, high speed, size, etc. I positioned it on the bottom, beneath my faucet shanks, blowing upward. I put little pieces of vinyl tubing on the screws that...

A Year of CO2 Leaks, Please Help

I had one of those go bad on me. I didn't have the time/desire to order a new Taprite seal, so I went to Lowes and bought a pack of #9 O-rings (5/8"OD x 7/16"ID x 3/32"). They fit perfectly in the Taprite fitting, and I haven't had a leak there since. I never did order Taprite seals, and don't...
