If you need the space on the inside, you can just add a layer of foam outside the wood collar. That should work the same way as foam on the inside. I don't know what the long term effects of sandwiching a layer of wood between foil tape and foam are, but it'd be a relatively easy way to test...

Thanks - I didn't even think about that. Just did a search and saw two 20 lbs tanks for $10 each - for that price it seems a bit sketchy though... Cool. I used to get my fills at Pacific Welding, a subsidiary of Central. Didn't check tanks prices there though.

This is at an Airgas branch in Tacoma, WA. They definitely had the most expensive tank prices locally. I ending up getting a 10 lbs steel tank from online. Airgas seems to have the cheapest exchanges though @ $13 / 5 lbs (after fees, tax, etc.). All the LHBS and welding stores in the area...

Has anyone tried to exchange a steel CO2 tank for an Aluminium one? Local places want to charge me $80-$120 for a "new"* aluminium tank, but I can get a steel tank online for $70 (includes shipping). All the local places do tank exchanges anyways so I'd just swap it out here for another tank...

How do you fill both the container with carbon and the airlock with water without spilling one or the other? I'd imagine if you filled the squeeze bottle completely, the carbon would fall out as you try to screw it onto the airlock. Do you just not fill it the whole way? I'm just asking...

Did you ever get the fermentation restarted? I've currently got a 1.080 OG extract brew stuck at 1.030 that I'd like to bring down to 1.020 if possible.

How exactly do you confirm your FG with a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)? I want to do that! ;)
