    Blue Moon Clone

I was wondering what temperature people are fermenting at? I just finished a batch (Nilo-4) and noticed some aftertaste/off flavors. I typically ferment at 68 deg however this batch reached 72-73. I also (due to time constraints) left this batch in the fermenter for 5 weeks. So two...

    Blue Moon Clone

I brewed Nilos #4 the other day. I hit the numbers perfectly...well almost, my mash was .75 degrees low. We tested at two weeks and I will say "wow this is almost perfect". We compared the clone to a Blue Moon and this is what we found. Our beer was slightly darker. Good head retention. The...

Does anyone have a temp control for more than one fermenter?

    Temp Control...Fermenting Two Batches

I agree about good planning...lagers with lagers ales with ales. I am referring to two ales one a week old one active. Do you go to the trouble of controlling the temp on both or just control the active vessel?

    Temp Control...Fermenting Two Batches

I am in the process of constructing my fermenting chamber. Here is my question. How do you handle the freezer temp with two different vessels at different stages of fermentation? Any advise is always welcome. Here is my plan...I will monitor the temperature of both batches. Control cooling if...

    Blue Moon Clone

I have a quick question. I am going to attempt to brew Nilo’s Blue Moon #4 this weekend. I noticed Nilo has an efficiency of 65%. My typical efficiency runs around 75-85%. If I brew the recipe and hit 75% my SG will be at 1.057. So my question is…Will this recipe typically hit a...

    Pot Size

I do agree there is really no perfect size pot for multiple size batches. I think since I do a lot of 5 gallon batches with the occasional 10 gallon batch I believe the 15 gallon pot is the right size. Thanks for the replies.

    Pot Size

Am moving into the all grain world. I generally brew 5 gallon batches. I currently own a 10 gallon pot. I would like to buy a second pot to use primarily as a (HTL) but would like to also have the ability to brew 10 gallon batches in the future. Question...is a 15 gallon pot the right size or...

    Which Mash Tun

I'm thinking for now I will be brewing 5 gallon batches. When I have enough cash to build something fancy I will go to 10 gallon. So sounds like the igloo round will work. Are there any suggestions on a good false bottom or are they all about the same functionally.

    Which Mash Tun

I am entering the all grain world. I need to get setup on a Mash Tun. I was wondering which way to go...round igloo or the rectangle cooler configuration. I am leaning towards the round igloo. What do most people use? I like the idea of a false bottom in the igloo. Any recommendations on the...

    Stuck Mash

I am moving into all grain and attempting to be as prepared as possible. I read about the dreaded stuck mash and believe I understand what the basic problem is. However are their things that can be done to avoid this? Is it more common with certain grains? Is it more or less common with...

    Outside Brewing

Sounds like two is the way to go. I think I will do two singles that way if I just need one for something I will have it. Is 50 to 60 thousand btu burners good for 5-10 gallons? Thanks

    Outside Brewing

I am moving from indoor stovetop to outdoor brewing. I am currently putting my equipment together to go from extract to all grain. My question is how many burners do most people use one two or more. I am looking at either buying a two burner combo or two separate burners. Or will one get the...

    Anyone in North Georgia?

I live in Sugar Hill as well. I haven't brewed in 20 years and just started back two weeks ago. I am interested in working with other people or a small club to make brewing (learning) a little simpler. We should get together.

    What to buy next?

Really temperature control!!!! I wanted to buy a stir plate. I will spend a few day researching temp control. I do have a beer fridge I used to keep kegs in. I also run an automation and controls division so I should be capable of maintaining temperature. I am currently fermenting in a spare...

    What to buy next?

So is the stirstarter the best choice? The price looks good. I will add an extra bar and get the two liter container. Will this work on 1 gallon jugs? Also will this unit support larger bars? Can anyone recommend a good website to help with calculating starters. Thanks for your help.

    What to buy next?

I am getting back into brewing after a 20 year break. I am currently brewing extract with ambitions to move into all grain. I have everything to brew, bottle or keg. I am interested in either a stir plate to begin creating starters or the oxygen kit from Williams. What would benefit the beer...

    Old Beer...really old beer?

Well the verdict on the beer is not so good. It had started to cider and had a watery taste as well. I ended up watering the garden with the beer. The good news is I have the fever and have already made some new batches as well as a gallon of cider. So live and learn. I am sure I will have...

    Old Beer...really old beer?

It will be a week or so until I can give it a go. I gave it a smell test today and can report it had a very strong wine smell. I will definitely give it a taste :drunk: and follow up with a report. I was under the impression if done “correctly” you can only properly brew one barley wine in a...

    Old Beer...really old beer?

I was brewing beer 10 years ago when one day I just stopped. Long story, but I had brewed two barley wines and transferred them into glass carboys. They have been sitting with no airlocks since 2004...just foil over the tops. So is there any chance at all the beer is worth bottling in or...
