    Wiring questions

I ran line 1 through it. But I don't have my elements ready yet, so it hasn't been under a load yet and I have no idea if it works.

    Wiring questions

That makes sense for the grounds. So it would be 10ga wire, since the largest individual load is a 5500 watt element. With the home run wiring, the highest load it could possibly see is 23 amps. I have 25A cb's where the load splits to go to either element. Glad I don't have to pull 6ga wire...

    Wiring questions

I'm building a 50A back-to-back eHERMS panel, with parts from ebrewsupply.com among others. I have two questions for you electrical gurus. 1. What gauge wire do I need for the grounds? The ebrewsupply.com schematics do not list gauge for these, but the do for all other wiring. 2. Regarding...

    Almost done

Pretty exciting week for me, I just made the last big orders for my eHERMS control panel. It's a pretty standard Kal clone, with parts from ebrewsupply.com. 50 amps, so I can do back-to-back batches. One thing I added, which I haven't seen in other builds, is a kilowatt hour meter...

    HERMs coil question

Wish I had seen that before I built mine

Methods to achieve accurate temp readings?

I was actually gonna post a question on the same topic. Kal's system uses a pump to cycle the HLT water, and the output temp of the HLT fires the HLT heating element. I was curious whether you'd get too much hysteresis (I think that's the right term) if you used the mash tun outlet. I only have...

    Chugger pumps

I turn the pump off as soon as it starts to cavitate. You can tell by the sound.

    Time saver in runoff?

I fly sparge. I used to run mine full-bore for a minute or two, and then close it up to keep an inch of water above the grain bed. I had a spinning sparge arm, and my sparge was pretty slow because the sparge arm restricted flow so much. Last brew day, I had my HERMS rig finally ready, and I did...

Fly Sparging question, my OG has been low the past 2 brews

If you have the space in your boil kettle, you could boil the additional wort down to concentrate it. The only downside is the possibility of tannin extraction. Most people say to stop sparging when your running hit 1.010. I fly sparge as well, and I typically use a grist ratio of 1.25 or 1.5...

Adapting carboy cleaner pump for HERMS

I'd rather stick with the one I already have. I won't have to get another power source with it.

Adapting carboy cleaner pump for HERMS

I've been gradually upgrading to a Kal-inspired eHERMS rig. Currently, my 3 keggles are set up (aside from the heating elements) and I brewed my first batch utilizing 1 pump and a propane-fired HERMS, gravity feeding into the boil kettle during the sparge. I also have a Mark II Keg Washer...

    Location for electric brewery

My garage has a 220V 50A outlet wired in already. Pretty nice surprise, considering I never got to see the house until 3 months after I bought it.

New to Area( Oak Harbor,WA) looking for fellow home brewers

I love the PNW. As a beer enthusiast, I think you're gonna be happy. Make sure you get to Whidbey Beer Works for a great specialty beer selection. A lot of people love Flyers, the local brewpub. Their porter and amber are pretty good, but I find the rest of their beers are kinda meh. Rockfish in...

New to Area( Oak Harbor,WA) looking for fellow home brewers

Have you found the homebrew store yet? The guys that run it also run the local club, Whidbey Island Zymurgy Association (WIZA). It's in the business complex near the corner of Goldie and Ault Field road. There are a ton of homebrewers in OH, and the club is pretty active. Welcome!
