    What are you drinking now?

Appalachian Brewing Co. Grinnin' Grizzly Holiday Spiced Ale...guess it's last year's even though I just got it a couple weeks ago at the ABC brew pub. Not bad.

    Beer-Related Scented Candles

I'm not ashamed to admit that i quite enjoy a scented candle. If i were to pitch a scent to Yankee Candles it would be...Boiling Wort. I guess it's not a coincidence that i'm currently 40 minutes into the boil of a blonde ale. What other scents should we pitch?...

    Nottingham done at 68% attenuation?

Thanks. Good info. I gave it a gentle swirl and raised the temp up to 70, so we'll see if it'll drop a couple points, which i guess is unlikely at this point. If not, i guess i'll just have a slightly sweeter & fuller porter. Either way, i'll drink the heck out of it.

    Nottingham done at 68% attenuation?

9# Maris Otter .75# Light Munich .36# Black .25# Chocolate 1#Crystal 20 1# Clover Honey (maybe this has something to do with it?) mash 1hr @ 156 deg (or this?) ...only my 4th all grain batch (BIAB) so i'm still trying to get the gist of how mash temps affect FG and body.

    Nottingham done at 68% attenuation?

First time using Nottingham. I've read it has a high attenuation. But i've had a 1.054 porter sitting at 63 degrees for 17 days and have only gotten down to 1.017. 68%, right? Has anybody else had this happen?

Secondary Fermentation - To Rack or Not to Rack

Somebody please correct me if i'm wrong, but i seem to remember reading that using something to strain the beer at that point in the process could possibly lead to oxidation. Something to consider.

    What do you miss?

I figured me and my brother were the only 2 people in the world who had even heard of The Adventures Of The Wilderness Family. I think we had it on the very 1st VHS tape we ever recorded on to. Star Wars and The Toy were the other movies on that tape if i remember correctly. Probably taped it...

    HOPS-BOPS 2012 Results?

Got my sheets back. Entered a pumpkin ale in 21A & got a 31 & 29. I'm feeling pretty good about it considering it's my 1st competition entry. Very interesting to get feedback from someone who isn't my mom, who tells me every beer i brew is the best beer she's ever had. She's a liar but i...

25 mins into boil of 1st BIAB

I may try your idea of adding heat at those intervals on my next batch. I did lose 2 or 3 degrees during the 60 min mash. Too bad my kettle is about an inch too tall to fit into my oven.

25 mins into boil of 1st BIAB

66% efficiency as far as i can figure. have to admit i'm not exact on a couple temps & volumes to calculate gravity. not bad i guess for a 1st try. of course the only measurement that matters will be in 6 or 7 weeks when i crack one open.

25 mins into boil of 1st BIAB

Thanks. Just finished up. Right...obvious in retrospect that boiling off water would raise gravity. 1.033 (adjusted for temp) to 1.050. And yes...went from 3.5 gal to about 2.5 gal. And thanks Deathbrewer and Seven for the awesome tutorials on BIAB. I hope the final product turns out good...

25 mins into boil of 1st BIAB

I'm trying out a 2.5 gallon batch of a SNPA clone for my first attempt at this. I have to say, it may take longer than extract, but is MUCH easier once the boil starts. No turning off heat & mixing in LME or DME. Only 1 hot break to keep from boiling over. Plus the 3.5 gallon boil pretty...

I Wish I Could Change My HBT Name To...

When you spend $60M a year on 3 starting pitchers and have names like Rollins, Utley, & Howard in your lineup you certainly expect a little more than 10 games under .500 ... luckily for me i can RDWHAHB.
