Grinder took 10 minutes on mine and looks great. Didn't need a jig, the handle up against the rim made a perfect 12" hole. A cheap black and decker will do the job for $30. Or a pawn shop for a grinder.

I have been using "zorks". They are plastic corks that work great. They can be pressed on by hand with some work or I use my beer capper for additional leverage. I got mine from midwest supply for fairly cheap. Working great for meads and apfelwein.
