    Non-traditional Ingredient - Best/Worst Experiences

passedpawn - do you know more about the infection you saw when using the beets? was it directly related to this ingredient?

    Is pot rocking normal?

We also have a flat ceramic stove top which causes some pots to rock/wiggle when we are cooking. I have not experienced this with my heavy brewpot, but it is pretty consistent with lighter weight pots. Rather than immediately turning the burner to high, try starting out with a lower temp and...

Specific Gravity hasn't changed in a week

I have found that with some of the kits I've done, my FG is not exactly the same as the source instructions state. Like Deuce says, "about right for a kit..." Get to bottling and I'm sure the beer will taste great.

Been a lurker for a while, coming clean now :)

Welcome!... but I really can't say that as I'm a recent joiner myself. I know you'll find the resources here are invaluable.

    Hoping the Priming Sugar??

Thanks guys, I'll follow up with my buddy to see if I can glean any more detail... And, yes, I think I'll try it sometime.

    Hoping the Priming Sugar??

I was recently having a discussion with a fellow homebrewer regarding "big hop" beers. We were talking about techniques to accomplish this like late additions and dry hopping but he had heard about another technique that I never had. He recalled a conversation he had once where someone had...

    Non-traditional Ingredient - Best/Worst Experiences

Thanks for the responses so far everyone! I'm enjoying reading about these ingredients. I believe Revvy's points are right on. I am certainly a noob however I'd like to think that my experience with other hobbies/interests (not to mention life in general) has taught me to master the basics...

    Non-traditional Ingredient - Best/Worst Experiences

I'm interested to hear your stories of triumph and horror in regard to making beer with ingredients that fall outside of the 4 primary categories. What are your best and/or worst experiences with ingredient experimentation?

    Recipe Ingredient Factoring

It's the Evil Twin recipe mentioned by MalFet here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/any-suggestions-next-batch-222350/ Makes sense to err on the side of over-hoping for aromatics. I guess factoring specifics will play into use of malt extracts more than for hops. Thanks!

    Recipe Ingredient Factoring

Apologies in advance if this is discussed in another area here. I have searched but not yet found anything. My question is in regard to ingredient factoring. I have a recipe I'd like to try and it is set up for 6 gallons. My current equipment however limits me to 5 gallons. Is it correct...

    My third brew, recipe suggestions

I will also put in a suggestion for NB's Caribou Slobber. Great beer and the documentation that NB provides is second to none!

    Any Suggestions on next batch???

I did the NB Caribou Slobber for my first kit. Very straight forward and it came out nicely. Might be a candidate for some creativity since this will be your second batch.

    New guy from MA

HoppyGus - I was actually born in a town in OH called Wooster... I'm also near Boston in MA, southeast near the cape. Seems like a lot of us from that area. Can anyone recommend clubs or gatherings?

    How did you find us?

A good 85% to 95% of the time I google a question about homebrew (i.e. "how to make a DIY mash tun?", "what types of finishing hops are common to american IPAs?") my search results include posts to these forums. After seeing this a lot I decided to just come straight to the source of the...

New to Brewing in Southeast MA

Hello all. I first got the homebrewing bug many years ago in college. Since then I have occasionally helped out friends with theirs, done a lot of reading and studying, and, of course, gone on every brewery tour I could, but in the last few months I have finally begun to buy some equipment and...
