    My first Mead

Just and update. It's been bottled since whenever I bottled it :p .... Anyway, it actually came out quite good. So good in fact I only have 7 750s left and have had to resort to hiding them in the basement. I had to lie to everyone and tell them it was all gone. Over a dozen people have...

    Wineberries

Yes, I have ALOT on my property. Unfortuanately, many burned up last summer during the week of triple-digit heat. They will be back. ;) THey are delicious, I am not sure I could get enough for a three gallon batch this year, so I will eat them. I wanted to try to, but there probably...

    Lilac Wine Question

Yeah...more like tea. That picture looks like cotton candy jammed in a carboy ;)

    Lilac Wine Question

Mine did not look like that at all. It was more of purpleish brown. The lilacs were purple. The must doesn't smell so bad now. We will see how it looks at the first racking. If it doesn't work out...there will be plenty of vinegar.

    Lilac Wine Question

I just started a 5gallon batch on May 5. I pulled the petals off of the green. Of course there was a small portion that made it it. It was not as tedious as my dandelion attempt (now on hold for more dandelions). One thing I noticed is that it started out smelling fabulous...it was a...

    My first Mead

Racked for the third time tonight, it was clear. Current SG read 0.997ish, so I guess that make the approximate abv. 13.7% I tasted it, and it was a definitely dry and a bit 'hot', but a bit flavor-less other than tasting like...well mead..which was the intent. A few more months sitting in...

    My first Mead

Racked to carboy. SG = 1.020 It is a bit hazy. Smells like mead....tastes like mead. Taste is ok, but a little watery and weak flavored. Stay tuned.

    My first Mead

1 week and two days in. SG is now 1.066-ish (don't like this hydrometer difficult to read) uite a bit of foam had been produced in the course of the week, but it has receded considerably. Defintiely smells like mead....hope it eventually tastes like it ;)

    Find a Bee Keeper

Eww....sprawlmart honey. They probably get that adulterated chinese crap. It's an older article: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/394053_honey30.asp But it's still applicable.

    Beekeeping Resources

I have tried the top bar hives and as a result, I would not recommend them in the higher latitudes. I lost all of the colonies over the winter. I am not an expert either, but I have kept bees for several years now with modest success. Each year has been better than the last. Beekeeping can...

    Find a Bee Keeper

Congratulations. I am not a commercial bee keeper, I'm in it for myself, but I can tell you this: It can be expensive with loss of colonies, disease, and other 'natural' demises, so try to compensate him in some way if you can. A lot of beekeepers make most of their money from pollination...

    store bought mead

All varieties of Dansk Mjød are quite good. Beware...high alcohol content. I guess you would characterize them as Metheglins (and 'Sack' at that) since they are made with ginger, carroway, hibiscus, and hops. I do not particularly like Redstone Meads. And B. Nektar Meadery Wildflower and...

    Bee Keeping

I am a beekeeper. I have four hives. Unfortuanetly, I do not get tremendous yields due to my location; but it is decent. I harvested about 50# early spring and another 160# mid autumn. I leave a good deal inside between harvests and for over-wintering in case a summer dearth or...

    New Jersey

Hello, from New Jersey. I am new to home brewing and I have not even started yet. I am primary interested in Mead, Cider, and Wine. I am about ready to start my fermentations (probably before the New Year begins); probably a traditional mead and a basic apple cider. I am a...
