Has anyone picked one of these things up yet? Have any issues getting all your components stuffed into it?

    Running 2 elements simultaniously

I'm thinking this is the reason Kal has designed the 50A kit. It allows for back-to-back brews by allowing you to heat up water in the BK while using your MLT/HLT at the same time. I believe you are on the right track with using a 50A circuit. Two 4500w elements at 240v will pull 37.5A. That...

GE 7 CF (FCM7SUWW) keezer conversion

Spent some time running through this thread (all 39 current pages) and didn't see an actual measurement of the start-up draw in amps of these things. Anybody happen to know what it is?

    Homebrew Clubs in Louisville?

Jimmy hit most of the high points as to why the number of craft/smaller breweries is smaller in KY than others. He did miss one important part of the equation however, KY is a three tier state. Yet another hurdle keeping the small guy from being able to get going. KRS 243.157 sets the...

    Hello from Powell Tennessee

Welcome! Originally from Oak Ridge myself. My family still lives there so I spend a few weekends a year back around the area visiting.

Because I was under 21 until 2007, store won't sell to me

My current license is only good for a total of 3 years 2 months and 5 days. It doesn't expire on my birthday. I won't be turning any special age next year. Lord knows what the reason is for such a weird time frame on this currently issued one. I too suffer from 'you like 14-itis'. After...

    Appalachian State brewer, Boone, NC

Welcome freeradical! Spent a lot of time in Boone visiting one of my best friends while we were in college. I went to ETSU and he went to App St. Made for quick rides back and forth to hang out. It's a good thing they didn't have that back when I was in school. Would have easily gone there...

    Too much yeast?

Its late here, almost 1am, and I just got my beer into the closet. I'm making a 2.5 gallon batch using my Better Bottle as my fermentor. I used a packet of dry yeast for a 5 gallon batch. While cleaning up I realized I forgot to use only half of the yeast. Will having that much yeast be a...

How do you identify your homebrews?

I have a small white board that hangs out next to the beer fridge. I keep a legend scribbled on it of what is available. Each cap gets sharpied with a letter. I've not had two batches of the same beer at the same time yet, but if needed I could easily add in a second character to...

    Snake Bites banned in England

I've ordered a snakebite in 5 different states and all have come the same way, half Harp and half cider. The states I've ordered these in are North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Maybe this is the southern way of making them?

    Lactose and boiling

Thanks for the quick reply Revvy. Looks like I'll be boiling my water for 15 minutes with some lactose and cocoa in it. So the process should be... 1) Pre-boil 2 gallons of water, then put it in the fridge/freezer to cool 2) Boil the lactose and cocoa in 3 gallons of water for 15 minutes...

    Lactose and boiling

I'm wanting to do a milk chocolate stout using a LME. I recently picked up a LME kit for making stouts but it came pre-hopped. My question is, with my kit being pre-hopped do I need to boil the lactose for a certain period of time, or should it be dumped into my carboy?
