    Couple of questions before bottling

Not sure what will happen with not dry hopping in secondary. Ive only ever dry hopped in secondary. Regarding keeping the bottles at 70ish. I ended up buying interlocking dark gray/black totes(~$7) from homedepot and keep them out of the way in the dining room. This has kept SWMBO fairly...

Forgot to take an OG reading on a Chocolate Milk Stout

I am totally confused. Are you sure your reading the hydrometer correctly. 65 is well in the zone for that strain of yeast.

Forgot to take an OG reading on a Chocolate Milk Stout

hmm. me too. sounds like you are hitting the temps. give it a bump and wait a day or so. if it doesnt start repitch. It could be the packet of yeast you had.

Forgot to take an OG reading on a Chocolate Milk Stout

Maybe I missed something. Are you concerned it didnt ferment? I read as 1.003 but 1.030 is a different story. You could give it a small bump and it may restart but 3 weeks that a while not to start. You said low 60s, notty is good 57- 70. Does it get colder than 57 at night?

I cant imagine your not fine to bottle but never did a choclate milk stout. if you were like 1.015 or above you may have a bottle bomb situation.

    Noob Needs Info!

In the city lugging all the stuff you would buy maybe tough. Check for a local homebrew store, google is always good. You can buy starter kits online and generally can find a deal. some have free shipping over a certain dollar amount. Like Austin Homebrew. Not that you asked but if I had to...

Forgot to take an OG reading on a Chocolate Milk Stout

I think youll be fine. That seems low. Run your recipe through http://hopville.com/ , it will give you an estimate on FG. How long in the primary?

    Wyeast 3638 question

Sorry newbie question... I brewed a Heffe yesterday, all went well hit the temperatures and gravities I expected. pitched at 70; temp in room is 67ish. OG 1.052 as the recipe said. Put a blow off tube and checked today. It seems all the yesat is at the bottom already and no Krausen. Its...

    First all grain

This link was invaluable when I first started for the mash and sparge. Mash and Sparge Water Calculator ::: Brew365 - Homebrewing Recipes and Articles There are others for iphone and android as well but this should work. My biggest challenge the first couple times was learning how my...

    Secondaries

if you did 2 week primary, 3 secondary. Your beer would clarify more. To be honest Ive left it in for 3 -4 weeks and didnt know a significant difference. 3-4 weeks was more due to being busy. I find the transfer sometimes stirs things up. So I would go secondary longer. if you leave in...

    Secondaries

I generally goto secondary after 10 days. Regarding gravity reading it depends on how the fermentation goes. Some are very vigorous which is visible when I look at the carboy. Basically anything above the wort in the carboy is covered in krausen. If I get only a 2-3 inch krausen, I take a...

    So,,,,,how much will I save

I agree with all the threads. I think if you went by pure cost alonel(maybe if you stick to the plastic buckets, and never replace them).....never fine tune your process or buy brew gadgets. if you add in the time and reseach and forget it. Its fun, gratifying to make something...

    some basic questions:

Regarding #3 - I have often used 4-5 1 liter plastic seltzer bottles to supplement during my botling day. I literally just pour out the seltzer/non flavored and bottle. Usually I give to people I dont deem bottle worthy or dont see regularly. Based on other posts, I dont use them a second...

What is your idea of the perfect Homebrew store?

Various Home brews on tap like my HMBO(they have 2 usually), Ive been able to get ideas and try things I wouldn't likely try. reasonable pricing. Fresh ingredients/yeast. free grinding. Ability to buy what you need not only in 1lb packages. pre-made kits would be nice as well that are both...

New to brewing, finishing gravity too high

I did the same thing my first time out! To your first question, No I don't think your being to cautious. I usually do 10 days in the primary,10 secondary(I assume you have no secondary at this point since your bottling). 7 days, I think is considered a minimum so a few more days would be...

    Defective Vinator?

Bottled earlier. I dont snap mine down w/ tabs above but fill with sanitizer about half way. I squirt like 3 times and let it run out. No major splashes. sanitizer does come out the base of the squirter but does not spray all over. Your may be defective.

    Defective Vinator?

Hi bembury, I notice the same with my vinartor, no splash onto the counter though. I kind of hold the bottle for a couple seconds to let the water run out, that keeps the splash down. Im bottling this weekend. Ill pay closer attention and report back.

Bringing it back. SQ14 or SP10 burner

I have the SP10 and very happy with it. Cant speak to the other. Big fan of Amazon and its free shipping eligible http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000291GBQ/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Make sure to burn it in though. The paint flakes off and if there is a wind it could end up in your...
