Consistant Over Carbonation. Please Help Troubleshoot Cause!

Topher- that may be my issue. My problem is exactly the same as yours with beer blasting me in the face when i open the bottle. After inspecting my ball valve on my primary fermenter, there was a tiny bit of gunk leftover. I can't seem to get it out either. I'll buy a new fermenter and see...

Consistant Over Carbonation. Please Help Troubleshoot Cause!

All bottles are gushers. I pour my mixture of priming sugar and water into the bottling bucket then rack and stir lightly so it should be mixed well. I may end up trying out a glass carboy for fermenting and seeing what happens. I mean if it's happened with the last 9 batches it must be an...

Consistant Over Carbonation. Please Help Troubleshoot Cause!

It is almost exactly 4 oz of corn sugar. And I mix it with 4.75 gallons of beer. Maybe with this batch I will try priming with 2 oz and if it is over carbonated I'll then look into getting a new non plastic primary fermenter. Can filling your bottles too much cause over carbonation? This...

Consistant Over Carbonation. Please Help Troubleshoot Cause!

That's what I'm kind of thinking. Maybe I'll pick up a glass carboy for my next batch of beer and see what happens. The only thing that confuses me is that there are no off tastes that I can pick up. Would an infection or wild yeast be anything I could taste??

    Dirty bottles after use?

That is very interesting. This seems to be happening a lot for us, but not others. Could it be the water? I have relatively soft water with low chlorine coming out of the faucet. I don't know if the bottles could be unsmooth on the inside, being glass and all...but what do I know!

    Dirty bottles after use?

Yeah I agree that I don't think anything is wrong because the beer tastes fine. I'll just start bleaching the bottles, sounds easier than scrubbing them all. I'm like you where it happens to about half of my batches I brew.

    Dirty bottles after use?

Hmmm thanks for the answers. So it seems like most don't have this problem. I'm wondering if it's because I brew and bottle with the same fermenter? (coopers kit) Could I possibly be picking up some of the trub and putting it into the bottle? Would that be an issue with having dirty bottles...

    Dirty bottles after use?

Hi guys, I've brewed about 6 or 7 batches of beer so I'm getting pretty familiar with homebrewing. However something that kind of bugs me is that after I pour my beer and rinse out my bottle, there is a lot of stuff on the inside of the bottle that's stuck to the walls (looks like tons of...

Grains to Make up 1lb of Amber LME

oh perfect answer. There is probably a calculation somewhere to find out how much I will need to equal a pound of LME? Thanks! Edit: If not Ill just get a couple pounds of 2 row and 2/5 pound of 60L and it'll probably turn out alright. I like to keep things simple

Grains to Make up 1lb of Amber LME

Thanks I live just down the street from Northern Brewer though so I save shipping by going there instead. I'd like to make up that extra pound of Amber LME with grain since it is a better price and I am already partial mashing. Any ideas on what grains to use?

Grains to Make up 1lb of Amber LME

Hi guys, semi new brewer here. I am brewing the recipe for ChshreCat's Double Chocolate Oatmeal Stout ( https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/double-chocolate-oatmeal-snout-126638/ ) The recipe calls for 7 lb's of Amber LME, and northern brewer only sells it in 3 and 6 lb containers. Being the...

Foam on top after krausen sinks, airlock bubbling again

Foam on top after krausen sinks, airlock bubbling again

that's kind of what I was thinking. Do I need to really worry about autolysis (sp?)? I always heard after about a month you run a little risk of it, which Id be really disappointed because I sampled my gravity check and it tasted great

Foam on top after krausen sinks, airlock bubbling again

Hi guys, Im a new brewer and new to homebrewtalk. I searched the forums and couldn't find an answer so hopefully this isn't a repeat. This is my 4th batch and I don't secondary ferment. Basically, my beer has been sitting in the Primary for 25 days (I plan to bottle after 28). After about...
