American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

Never tried the Dead Ringer so just looked it up and I see it is what they used to call 3-Hearted Ale ... here's the very easy recipe: http://www.northernbrewer.com/documentation/beerkits/DeadRingerIPA.pdf I pretty much stick to these ingredients but sometimes cut down the extract and hops...

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

hmm, my favorite up here in the U.P. of Mich ... I know this is an all grain thread but jfyi the Northern Brewer "3 Hearted" recipe nails the product such that I've found nobody who can tell it from a store bottle of Bells... the local 2Hearted on tap around here is mostly even more awesome.

Brand New to Brewing: Fermentation Questions

yes, if you put a whole 5 gal in a 5 gal carboy you'd need a blowoff tube instead of an airlock as there is too little room left for the krausen .... maybe spend another 15 bucks and get a pail and use the carboy as a secondary, it will free up your pail for another batch.

First time kegging - need help!!!

psi and volumes still need a duration factor, the 12 psi works at a constant temp given some length of time, 30 psi will need less time at the same temp. There is no such thing as artificial carbonation. Force carbing is as real as longer duration carbing, you just don't get the conditioning...

    Should I boil more wort?

I have made this kit and it is excellent per instructions. I also have a 10 gal pot and have tried both ways for the boil, went back to boiling about 3 gal as it takes way less time and adding another 2 gal water speeds the cool down and you won't notice the difference. If you want a bit more...

Low O.G. on my second batch

I use the NB extracts exclusively so far .... lots of syrup can stick to the containers so I put them in simmering water while I soak the grain and get up to a boil.... I put the caps on and let them sit upside down then drain another 1/8 cup of syrup into the boil within a half hour... I've...

When you force card are you drinking green beer?

Even after carbing it will condition with time and taste will improve if no infection is at fault.

    Fermentation Time

I allow at least 2 weeks in the fermenter, or 4 for hi-gravity. If you bottle you then have to add a couple weeks but force carbing in a keg can give very good results in 2 days, so 3 weeks to glass is np although it will improve with more time. This time can be spent in the keg while you're...

Force carbing 2 kegs at same time

you can get by without leaving the co2 hooked up no problem. I switch my tank between various kegs, I can pour a whole buncha pints from a keg before giving it another shot of co2, I just insure that after the drinking is done that there is around 10psi when left to sit.... if you have no leaks...

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

Monday at deer camp we celebrated the first buck with a 6-pak of 2 Hearted bottles and 2 1L bottles of the Northern Brewer "3 Hearted" which is the ingredients I listed above but using Wyeast 1056 liquid yeast. The complete instructions and ingredients are on the NB website. The batch was made...

5 Gallon Glass Carboy as Primary?

I have used my 5 gal carboy for fermenting, had a bit of foam come up into the airlock so I bought a blowoff tube for next time. Dump 5 1 gal jlugs of water into a carboy or bucket to see where the line should be.... unless you add a bit extra there will always be less than 5 gal of beer unless...

    force carbing

Another success. Note that I am working with wheat beer on my fast carb trials. I read somewhere that wheat beer is the best candidate for fast boil to glass time, and my current batch was boiled on 10/25 and is totally good to serve this am. Even though I admit that I'm a beer slut, I have no...

    force carbing

I've had excellent luck on my force carb trials. The green beer flavor may be more evident depending on the type of brew, but the thing is that if it tastes 'green' (whatever that is) it will still continue to condition over time. My current wheat beer has become much smoother about 10 days...

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

The Bell's website states they only use centennial hops for 2 Hearted. They get 7% alc. with an og of 1.64. I have just cultured the dregs from 3 bottles of 2 Hearted and after just 3 days they are taking off big time, I was surprised as hell. I just started with a small amount of very weak...
