Is this the answer to my overcarb problem?

So I have just started drinking my second batch. First bottle seemed like had a bit too much carbonation for my tastes. So a few days later I opened a second bottle and poured into a glass. The glass immediately filled with foam and over flowed. I think i figured out my problem. Does this sound...

I know... rdwhahb. But a ? about yeast cake and bottling.

OK. Been reading here that a benefit to a primary is to get your beer of the trub so that it won't affect the taste. I have a brew kit going. had it in my primary, which is a non-airtight kind. It was in for just two days and the sg went from 1.054 to 1.014. Since activity was slowing way down...

washed new primary. still smells like beer. Ruined?

I just racked my first batch of beer out of my new (1st) primary. Its a 10 gallon plastic one. I rinsed it out. Washed in bleach water solution and rinsed again. It still smells a bit like there was beer in it. Is the plastic now forever tainted? How to you clean your plastic fermentors?

Are more expensive kits worth the cost?

I'm going to be starting my second batch of beer as I only have one left from my first. I'm going to use a kit because I'm still a noob, and grains are harder and more expensive to get here than elsewhere. I can by a canned kit, you know the concentrate in the tall heavy cans. But I can also...

    periodic table of beer

I just found this and had to share. Sorry if this is old news. It was new for me, and it blew my mind.

need help with my first cider

After a successful (first) beer making attempt I was on youtube and watched a few cider making videos. In those videos, the people took preservative free apple cider or juice, added sugar to the desired sg, pitched standard baker's yeast then let it bubble away under a lock. I thought "hey...

Can bottled beer be stored at room temps?

My first batch of beer is carbonating away at the moment, so i was reading about making sodas. I read in a few places that once pressure built up in the soda bottles you needed to refrigerate them or else the yeast would make too much CO2. Do I need to refrigerate all 60 bottles of beer after a...

    Which do you like better?

Well before I put my first batch in a fermenter I was playing around with label designs. Now apparently there is someone in this forum with the same idea for a name. I know this because when i registered at this forum it said "brewpastor" was already taken. I'm not that person, and he/she can...

Does any of it really matter?

I am new to the forum, and new to brewing. My first batch is only 3 days into fermenting. I have been doing a lot of reading in this form, in brewing books, and talking with brew store owners as well as a couple friends who brew. Everyone seems to know the best technique, everyone's beer is...

    amount of priming sugar

the extract kit I used (my very first batch) says that I should put 1tsp of sugar into each bottle, then fill and it makes 60 bottles worth. 1tsp x 60 = 1 1/4 cup. That seems like a lot of priming sugar. Every thing I have read says use 3/4 cups and never go over 1 cup. I'm going to add the...

to rinse or not to rinse?

My very first batch of beer is fermenting away in the hall closet. I'm in the process of cleaning my bottles (got them from a recycle place) for that fateful day. When its time to bottle and I give the bottles a squirt of potassium metabisulfate, do I just put them on my bottle tree to dry or to...

almost ready to brew.. one Q though

I bought all my equipment and am currently working up the courage to risk 40 bucks on my first brew. As I am thinking about the process I am wondering how one transfers the wort to the primary fermenter (glass carboy) and when? Do you use a strainer and funnel and just dump it in or do you use a...
