I use the same formula for my strike water and I always add 3 to 5 degrees to the temp depending on the time of year. That is after preheating the tun too. Just have to take notes and adjust for the next brew day.

Interesting, this is the same way I wind my tape. Not sure how winding it opposite direction would keeping it from unwinding. Either way I havent had any issues.

ive been trying to get my dad to lend me his six gallon crock for some time for open fermentation. i didnt see the episode, but i dont think i would ferment in something that porous.
Havent had an infection yet, but if aging didnt help, id most likely drink it anyway. Unless im ready to brew and its taking up keg space, then its down the drain.
I am currently attempting to grow a pitchable amount of pacman yeast for a dead guy clone. Its my first one so I cant pick a favorite, im just hoping it works. I do plan to rinse it and brew my next few beers with it.
