    Stout with Saison yeast?

I used Wyeast 3711, a favorite of mine. It is amazing in the heat and will finish dry every time. A perfect summertime yeast (IMO).

    Stout with Saison yeast?

This is exactly my last experiment... I brewed a saison porter last month only because I had this Norther Brewer kit laying around for a couple of months (http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/st-paul-porter-extract-kit.html) and needed to brew it... the only problem was that it was the middle of...

    Founders Curmudgeon Extract Recipe?

I don't mean to reply to my own thread, but after a little more searching, I found an article from BYO magazine about old ales. Brew Your Own: The How-To Homebrew Beer Magazine - Beer Styles - Old Ales Hopefully this will get in the direction I want to go. If anyone has any recommendations...

    Founders Curmudgeon Extract Recipe?

On friday night I was at the fancy beer store and the clerk recommended Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale. I took it home and fell in love. It was amazingly delicious! As a home brewer I am not well versed in Old Ales or Barley Wines and was wondering if someone could point me in the right...

    Brewing Attracts Mice?

Being a New York City resident, I have had my fair share of pests. The sonic things don't work. The best thing I have ever found is the Rat Zapper (about $60 on amazon). I can't rave enough about it. Kills instantly and no messy cleanup, just dump it into a plastic bag. When you check...

    Jalapeno Ale?

I used chili peppers in a NB American Wheat Kit. Used 5 chillies with all but one's ribs & seeds scrapped out. Dropped them in w/ 5 minutes left in the boil. The net result was a very pleasant, not hot chili taste. Next time I would up the non-scraped ratio to 2 out of the 5 peppers to make...

DFH 60 min clone. Late extract add?

    It makes it damn tasty.

DFH 60 min clone. Late extract add?

I made that recipe about 6-8 months ago. I loved it! Didn't match exactly but was pretty damn close. I noticed it had a higher ABV than the original DFH 60 and mine turned out a little darker in color. To the OP, I would recommend 1/2 the extract at 60 min and the other half close to the...

other beers to make with 3711

It's like you're in my head, I was thinking the same thing the last few weeks. I have washed a bunch of Saison yeast and now its sitting in my fridge, begging to be used. I hope someone would reply, cause I am interested if a stout or porter w/ Saison yeast would be worth doing or just...

    Olde English 800 Extract Recipe?

@machinelf:love the pic... it's like beer for the eyes. @broadbill: It's not so much about saving money, it more about making a quality malt liquor (oxymoron?) and having a fun beer for when the guys come over. It sounds like a partial mash is pretty easy, although I will also be checking out...

    Olde English 800 Extract Recipe?

Thanks for recommendations everyone! Still in the exploratory phases of doing this, I'll keep you posted as to what I decide on doing, but thinking about going the corn sugar route.

    BB Belgian Triple questions

I say go for it... I brewed a Northern Brewer Triple kit and it is still in my secondary. Word of warning, be sure you use a blow off, Belgian Trappist yeast tends to kick off a lot of foam. I almost painted my walls with it...

    Olde English 800 Extract Recipe?

Alright, I know I am going to catch some guff for wanting to make an Olde English 800 clone, but like many others I had grown up drinking the stuff and enjoy it from time to time. I have found AG recipes around the web and can convert to extract pretty easily, but how would I handle the...

    Your favorite kits?!?!?!

I have only used Northern Brewer and True Brew Kits. By far my favorites have been from Northern Brewer. Everything is really fresh and I am constantly amazed at how well each kit has turned out (I've done about 12 different ones so far).

    Belgian Tripel - Blow Off?

Got home and it looked like it calmed down quite a bit. I just cleaned the airlock again and threw a plastic bag over it. Next time I will definitely use a blow off though so I won't have to babysit it as much. Thanks again!

    Belgian Tripel - Blow Off?

Thanks guys. So far in about 14 batches I have never had this problem. I will run home and switch it to a blow off during lunch today.

    Belgian Tripel - Blow Off?

Great.... I'm at work right now and this morning the krausen was still coming up. Maybe I should run home for lunch.

    Belgian Tripel - Blow Off?

I've been a member for a while, but this is the first time I've needed to post (thanks to the awesome search!). I brewed a Norther Brewer Belgian Tripel extract kit on Sunday morning and I came home yesterday (Tuesday evening) to a brown airlock. I rinsed it with warm water, let it sit in...
