    Shipping Beer

I have one of those food vacuum packing machines. I would think each individual bottle in a vacuum packed and heat sealer bag would be OK followed by the bubble wrap. I ship wine all the time. You can get these Styrofoam molds that hold 2 bottles with a box. These work perfect and I have used...

Why don't more of you guys open your own breweries?

I always had a passion for opening a bar. I made a fair amount of money 6 years ago when a computer startup of which I was a founder was bought out by a much larger competitor. I thought the best thing to do was start working in the industry. I went out and got my bartenders license and got a...

Chocolate Stout Recipe - 1st Try

OK, cracked one open a few minutes ago. Good color, good head. More carbonated that I expected for only 26 days in the bottle. More junk than usual at the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is good and strong. More coffee than chocolate. My initial taste was a little disappointing. The coffee...

What are you spending your tax refund on?

I would agree with you. I try and plan my taxes so I owe $300 - $500 or so. This is the first year I have had my tax overpayment reimbursed in a long time. We, my wife and I, did not plan it that way. Due to a death in the family we received a fairly significant inheritance. In keeping with our...

What are you spending your tax refund on?

Got my tax overpayment reimbursement (refund). Time to buy some stuff. The most important thing is up front. I need to spend $1000 to get my Granddaughter's teeth fixed. I'd rather spend the money on something else but God only gives you one set of teeth so you need to take care of them...

    Wort chiller build.

I keep thinking about this style wort cooler and it kinds of bothers me the volume of water that is used. Besides kind of being a waste in my area water is expensive. I have this idea to fill the sink with water and a ton of ice cubes and then hook a pump up to the cooler. It sucks the cold...

    Glasses

Some information on glass styles. http://www.samueladams.com/enjoy-our-beer/tasting-eval/glass.aspx http://www.samueladams.com/enjoy-our-beer/tasting-eval/function-over-form.aspx I was in my local liquor store about a year ago and they had a bunch of the Sam Adams glasses on the counter. They...

Sam Adam's Season Pack ... ehhh

After InBev bought AB, Sam Adams, BBC, became the largest domestically owned Brewery. In my book Sam Adams is no longer the biggest fish in a small pond, more like a medium fish in a big pond.

Chocolate Stout Recipe - 1st Try

Here is a recipe I got from a local Home brew store. It is a Chocolate/Coffee Stout but I bet you could leave the coffee out without any problems. My batch has been in bottles for a week so I haven't really had a chance to see how it turned out. 5 lbs. Light DME - Muntons Light, Color 8 EBC...

    Oktoberfest suggestions

Here is the link to a kit I tried about a year ago: http://www.beer-wine.com/products/rom-premium-octoberfest Not a real Oktoberfest but a pretty good beer. This is what the kit comes with: 2 Cans - Amber or Light Malt Extract - Muntons Malt Extract Light 3.3 lb 0.5 lb Crystal Malt 60L 0.5...

    Possible Infection ?

The verdict is success and no issues. I let this sit in secondary fermentation until 2/20 (11 days in secondary). There was no visual sign of the floaties by that time. When I racked into the bottling bucket there was a larger than expected yeast cake type of junk on the bottom of the carboy...

Brew and Pitched Monday Bubbles Stopped Thursday?

Sounds OK to me. I had a Belgium Wheat beer that hardly bubbled at all and it turned out OK. You are a little high on the temperature which could have caused it to ferment faster than you expected.

    Possible Infection ?

OK. The condition really hasn't changed. About the same amount of stuff. I am going to let it sit and plan on bottling when it is ready. I will give it a taste before hand.

    Possible Infection ?

I believe I have may an infection in my brew. If so, it would be my first so I need some assistance in verifying it. Belgium Style Summer Ale Brewed on 1/23/2010 and placed in primary fermentation bucket. I used White Labs Belgium Wit Ale Yeast WLP400 (which I have never used before). After I...

New to forum - Bedford, MA

Benn lurking for a while. Lots of great stuff here and the information has saved my butt more than once. Figured it was time to make myself known. My name is Dave and I live 15 miles outside of Boston. There are 3 things I love and they are Beer, BBQ and Boats. My wife might take objection to...
